Shawn:
But, you know, none of us can live forever, can we? We all have to die sometime.

Arrietty:
Why would you say something like that?

Shawn:
Because it's true.

Arrietty:
I guess so.

Shawn:
Believe me, I know what I'm talking about. Sometimes things happen to us that are just beyond our control. And when these things happen, there's really nothing you can do about it. You just accept it and prepare for the worst. I wish it wasn't that way. But you can't live a life that's built on nothing but wishes. It isn't practical. Sometimes you just have to accept the hand of fate.

Arrietty:
[Exhales] Oh, no, you don't. Sometimes you have to stand up and fight for the things that are worth fighting for. You have to survive. That's what my papa says.

Chihiro/Sen:
I finally get a bouquet and it's a goodbye present. That's depressing.

Chihiro/Sen:
[before realizing that her parents have become pigs] Mom! Dad! Come on, quit eating! Let's get out of here!

Chihiro/Sen:
I'm see-through!

Chihiro/Sen:
[To Haku, grabbing his arm] No! Don't leave me, I don't want to be alone!

Chihiro/Sen:
It's a bath house...

Chihiro/Sen:
I'm dreaming, I'm dreaming! Come on, wake up! Wake up! Wake up...

Chihiro/Sen:
[To Yubaba] I'm not leaving until you give me a job!

Chihiro/Sen:
Hey, Lin–what's a foreman?

Chihiro/Sen:
I think he needs help! It feels like there's a thorn in his side!

Chihiro/Sen:
[as Bo is twisting her arm] That hurts! Please, I'll play with you later okay?

Chihiro/Sen:
[To Bo, holding out the palm of her hand, which has Haku's blood on it] Germs! I've got germs, see?

Chihiro/Sen:
[To one of Yubaba's shrunken heads] Shut your mouth!

Chihiro/Sen:
Open your mouth... That's it... [forces Haku's mouth open while he's in dragon form] Got it. Now swallow! [holds his mouth shut as he thrashes around]

Chihiro/Sen:
[approaching a giant No-Face] I was saving this for my parents, but I think you'd better have it. [Throws the leftover medicine into his mouth]

Chihiro/Sen:
Haku, I've just remembered something. I think it might help you...when I was little, I dropped my shoe into a river. When I tried to get it back, I fell in. I thought I would drown, but the river carried me to shore. The river's name was the Kohaku River. I think that was you! And your real name is Kohaku River!

Haku:
You shouldn't be here. Get out of here now!

Haku:
That bird is looking for you. You've gotta get out of here.

Haku:
[To Chihiro] I've known you since you were very small. Good luck, and whatever you do, don't make a sound.

Haku:
Don't talk to me. And address me as Master Haku.

Haku:
Three days of eating our food and her smell will go away. And if she doesn't work hard, roast her, boil her, do whatever you want. Now get back to work. Where is Lin?

Haku:
Lin: [referring to Chihiro] What? Don't you dump her on me!

Haku:
Haku: You said you wanted an assistant.

Haku:
Meet me at the bridge. I'll take you to your parents.

Haku:
Haku: If you completely forget [your name], you'll never find your way back home. I've tried everything to remember mine.

Haku:
Chihiro: You can't remember your name?

Haku:
Haku: No. But for some reason I remember yours.

Haku:
Kamaji: Haku? You're alright...

Haku:
Haku: I'm fine. Where is Sen? Did she go somewhere? Can you tell me what's going on?

Haku:
Kamaji: You blacked out, remember?

Haku:
Haku: [looks down] Yeah I remember being in darkness... [realizes] Then I could hear Sen's voice calling out my name, so I followed her voice and the next thing I knew, I was lying here better than ever.

Haku:
[To Yubaba] You still haven’t noticed that something precious to you has been replaced.

Haku:
Haku: You did it, Chihiro! I remember. I was the spirit of the Kohaku River!

Haku:
Chihiro: A river spirit?

Haku:
Haku: My name is the Kohaku River!

Haku:
Chihiro: They filled in that river, it's all apartments now!

Haku:
Haku: That must be why I can't find my way home, Chihiro. I remember you falling into my river, and I remember your little pink shoe.

Haku:
Chihiro: So, you were the one who carried me back into shallow waters, you saved me! I knew you were good!

Yubaba:
Aren't you even going to knock? You're the most patheic little girl I've ever seen!

Yubaba:
[to Chihiro, after heavily persisting her request to have a job, sounding malevolent] Or maybe you'd like the worst, nastiest job I've got, until you breathe your very last BREAAAAATH?!

Yubaba:
[Upset] Oh, dear, you woke up the baby!

Yubaba:
So, your name's Chihiro? What a pretty name! [uses magic to steal the kanji of Chihiro's name] And it belongs to me now.

Yubaba:
Sen, you did great! We made so much money!

Yubaba:
[sounding annoyed] Oh, Haku's bleeding all over the carpet. Get him out of here; he'll be dead soon, anyway.

Yubaba:
[about to blast No-Face] Enough's enough! I don't care if he's rich; This nonsense has gotta stop!

Yubaba:
[To Haku] Don't get fresh with me, young man.

Yubaba:
[To Haku, when she finds out Boh is missing. Flames start to emerge from her mouth.] YYYYYYOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!! WHERE IS HEEEEEEEEEEEEEE?!?!?!?!?!?! WHAT DID YOU DO WITH MY BAAAABYYYYYYYY?!?!?!?!?!?! Haku: He's with your sister.

Yubaba:
Zeniba?!

Yubaba:
[Calms down] Very clever, Haku. I get it. You'll get my baby back for me, but at a price. So, what do you want?

Yubaba:
Haku: Tear up Sen's contract. And then, I want you to return Sen and her mother and father back to the human world.

Yubaba:
Fine, but on one condition: I get to give Sen one final test. If she fails, she's mine.

Yubaba:
I see you failed to bring my baby back.

Yubaba:
[to Bo; sounding hurt] But a deal's a deal, sweetie! I get to give Sen one final test!

Yubaba:
[after Chihiro completes her challenge; huffing] All right, fine, you win. Now get out of my sight!

Yubaba:
There's no need to get upset. I'm sure they'll find Sen somewhere. Chichiyaku: Hurry! This way! Madam, Sen is here now.

Yubaba:
Finally! Sen has arrived, sir. She'll be with you in just a few minutes. He's destroying everything, it's costing us a fortune! So suck up to him and get every last speck of gold he's... Eww, what's that dirty mouse doing here? Chihiro: Huh? He's your... He doesn't look familiar?

Yubaba:
Familiar? Don't be stupid. Now, get in there. Here's Sen. Chichiyaku: Will Sen be all right in there by herself?

Yubaba:
You wanna take her place? Chichiyaku: Huh?

Yubaba:
Hmph!

Salome:
F*** it off!

Autje:
I think it's "F*** off," actually.

Scarface Janz:
We have everything we want here.

Mariche:
No.

Scarface Janz:
Want less!

Salome:
Why would boys of 13 and 14 be left behind? Why wouldn't they leave with us?

Agata:
Surely, we don't have to be afraid of the boys of this age.

Ona:
August, you're the boys' teacher. What is your feeling about this? Do boys of that age pose a risk to our girls and women?

August:
Yes. Possibly. Boys of 13 or 14 are capable of causing great damage to girls and women. And to each other. It is a brash age. They are possessed of reckless urges, physical exuberance, intense curiosity that often results in injury. Unbridled emotion, including deep tenderness and empathy, and not quite enough experience or brain development to fully understand or appreciate the consequences of their words or actions. They are like the yearlings. Young, awkward, gleeful, powerful. They're tall, muscular, sexually inquisitive creatures, with little impulse control, but they are children. They are children and they can be taught. I'm a two-bit schoolteacher, a failed farmer, and above all a believer. And I believe that with guidance, firm love and patience, these boys are capable of relearning their roles as males in the colony. I believe in what the great poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge thought were the cardinal rules of early education. 'To work by love and so generate love. To habituate the mind to intellectual accuracy and truth. To excite imaginative power.' He said, 'Little is taught by contest or dispute, everything by sympathy and love.' I believe the boys should be allowed to leave with the women... Providing the women choose to leave.

August:
Ona! I will always love you.

[Ona smiles and walks away. August starts crying]

Woman on the Path:
She loves you too, August.

Ona:
Hope for the unknown is good. It is better than hatred of the familiar.

Ona:
Why does love - the absence of love, the end of love, the need for love - result in so much violence?

Ona:
Surely, there must be something worth living for in this life, not only in the next.

Ona:
When we have liberated ourselves, we will have to ask ourselves who we are.

Salome:
I will destroy any living thing that harms my child. I will tear it limb from limb. I will desecrate its body and I will bury it alive. I will challenge God on the spot to strike me dead if I have sinned by protecting my child from evil, and my destroying that evil that it may not harm another. I will lie, I will hunt, I will kill. I will dance on graves and I will burn forever in hell before I allow another man to satisfy his violent urges with the body of my four year old child.

Salome:
I cannot forgive them. I will never forgive them.

Salome:
We know we were made to sleep with cow tranquilizer!

Salome:
I will become a murderer if I stay.

Salome:
We do not need to be forgiven by the men of God for protecting our children from the depraved actions of vicious men, who are often the very same men we're meant to ask for forgiveness.

Mariche:
It was a yes or no question. You sh*t like any other man, why don't you talk like one?

Autje:
[narrating] We didn't talk about our bodies. So when something like this happened there was no language for it. And without language for it, there was a gaping silence. And in that gaping silence was the real horror.

Autje:
Sometimes I think people laugh as hard as they'd like to cry.

Autje:
We saw our bodies from above, not knowing if this was how God saw us, or because we didn't want to be in them.

Autje:
The attacks were originally attributed to ghosts and demons. When the women woke up feeling drowsy and in pain, their bodies bruised and bleeding, many believed they were being made to suffer as punishment for their sins. Many accused the women of lying for attention or to cover up adultery.

Autje:
They said later, it should have taken longer to pack up a whole life. It was disappointing to realize that everything that ever mattered to you could be gathered up in a few short hours.

Autje:
[to Ona's baby] Your story will be different from ours.

Greta:
Forgiveness can look like permission.

Greta:
We have been preyed upon like animals. Maybe we should respond like animals.

Greta:
Leaving is how we demonstrate our faith. We are leaving because our faith is stronger than the rules. Bigger than our life.

Scarface Janz:
If we do not forgive these men, we give up our place in Heaven.
