They're all young, ma'am.

Lt. j.g. Meg Austin:
There were extenuating circumstances.

Gunnery Sgt. Granger:
He's a marine, lieutenant. He's got a duty to perform.

Lt. j.g. Meg Austin:
Which is hard enough without you making his life miserable.

Gunnery Sgt. Granger:
If you baby him he'll start second guessing his training and instincts, and that gets people killed.

Lt. j.g. Meg Austin:
In Texas we had a dog that would take on anything to protect our cattle. Eventually we had to shoot him because he got so damn vicious he didn't care what he killed.

Gunnery Sgt. Granger:
Permission to speak frankly, lieutenant?

Lt. j.g. Meg Austin:
