I didn't tell Nan I called you. It would only make her more upset.

Michael Shayne:
Did you find out what caused her to faint last night?

Fred Palmer:
She said she saw someone in the house - a man.

Michael Shayne:
Do you believe her?

Fred Palmer:
I don't really know what to believe. I'd like to think she's just imagining things... but someone did open that trunk. I didn't tell Nan this, but the fuse wasn't burned out. Someone had pulled the master switch.

Michael Shayne:
You'd like me to find out who he is.

Fred Palmer:
I want you to find out who he is, what he wants, who emptied that trunk and why.

Michael Shayne:
Well, if I were you, I think I'd call the police. Their rates are a lot cheaper than mine.
