Why can't I just meet a decent guy from a decent family who happens not to be psychopath?

Martha Kent:
Oh, Lois. You know, when I was your age, I wasn't dating Prince Charmings, either.

Lois Lane:
Really?

Martha Kent:
Yeah. I used to attract the dark, mysterious type, too. Until I met Jonathan.

Lois Lane:
See, what worries me is that when my Jonathan finally does come around, I'll be looking the other way and I'll miss him completely.

Martha Kent:
Well, you have to keep a closer watch. You know, I think we go through these bad relationships for a reason.

Lois Lane:
Well, if there's a good reason for all the pain and aggravation, I'm dying to know.

Martha Kent:
Maybe... you have to get through all the wrong men so you can recognize the right one.
