You're working late.

Martha Kent:
Oh, god, it's like this never stops. I don't know how you managed all this and went to school, too, Lana.

Lana Lang:
It wasn't easy, but I don't remember staying this late after closing every night.

Martha Kent:
Well, it's easier to do this here than at home.

Lana Lang:
Is everything all right, Mrs. Kent?

Martha Kent:
Oh... Jonathan thinks the only reason I took this job is to help out with our finances.

[pause]

Martha Kent:
I love him, so much. But after everything that's happened, all... all his health problems, the only time I'm not worrying about losing him is when I'm here working.

Lana Lang:
But, uh... if you're here all the time, then, um... you don't see him anyway. Isn't that like you've lost him already?

Martha Kent:
A summer in Paris has really given you some insight, Lana. Thank you for reminding me.

Lana Lang:
Reminding you of what?

Martha Kent:
That it's easier to deal with your fears if you can share them with someone you love.
