The Fantastic Journey

Varian:
The Arawaks tell about a time zone, lies far to the rising sun; and there, they say, that any man could find a doorway back to his own time.

Varian:
In Earth year 2230, I was a musician, and my work was very important to me because in my century musicians do nearly all the healing. We use music to relieve pain, to restore harmony and balance to the mind, to the emotions. In 2230 man on Earth has unlimited resources because he's tapped the greatest resource of all, which is his mind. Our machines are efficient, and silent. And our cities are built miles high so that the land outside is free to grow and sustain wildlife. The five races have melded into one. There's no more war, and no more countries; it's just Earth. We're productive, non-aggressive people. We waste nothing: time, imagination, energy, effort. Because we believe that these things are the very essence of life.

Willaway:
Rachel, I thought I told you to be quiet about the swamp.

Rachel:
But she was so concerned about her friends.

Willaway:
Make no mistake about this. If you ever mention the swamp to anyone ever again, I will take you apart.

Willaway:
Ohh! Hello!

Fred:
You decided against the swamp?

Willaway:
It's not my style.

Varian:
Where, then?

Willaway:
Some other place. Some other people.

Scott:
But alone?

Willaway:
Society and I do seem to have our problems.

Fred:
I wonder why...

Varian:
You might travel with us.

Fred:
Wait a minute, after what he was gonna do?

Willaway:
Now why would you possibly want me to travel with you?

Varian:
You're alone. And you never would have killed us.

Willaway:
That is true. You know, if Liana had called my bluff, I don't know what I possibly would've done! But how did you know?

Varian:
I'm from the future, remember. And I know more about you than you do.

Willaway:
I don't understand...

Varian:
In my time, the Jonathan Willaway award was given annually to ten scientists whose work was distinguished most for it's contribution to life, not death.

Willaway:
A posthumous memorial...?

Varian:
It took about twenty years, but they credited you, Willaway, with a scientific ethic that became universal. One of the building blocks to achieving the kind of world that I knew.

Willaway:
I was appreciated after all. Well, a lot of good it does me now. Of course! I'll travel with you, of course! I may not be the ideal companion, but I just want to tell you that...

Fred:
Willaway please...let's just...get it on.

Willaway:
Liana, I hope you can forgive me. All I really wanted was some human companionship.

Liana:
Oh I think we can give you that!

Willaway:
Volcanoes do not make deals!
