Gotham, Season 5

Gotham is a superhero drama/crime series that premiered in September 2014 on Fox. It revolves around a teenage Bruce Wayne before he became Batman, and how he first met the familiar characters in the Batman universe, such as The Penguin, The Riddler, Selina Kyle and Jim Gordon.

Ecco:
What's the matter? Don't you wanna meet Jeremiah?

Selina Kyle:
I do. I'm just not willing to play your little psychotic game.

Ecco:
[chuckles] But, baby... It's sooo fun.

Selina Kyle:
[sarcastically] If it's so fun... why don't you play?

Ecco:
Don't you get it? I have. [grins, reveals a bullet wound at the top of her neck] The bullet's still inside... rattlin' around this old noggin of mine. Ping. Ping. Ping. Boy, do I feel it when the nights get cold.

[She holds a gun to her own head and pulls the trigger on empty several times, laughing manically]

Selina Kyle:
You're insane.

Ecco:
No, I was willing to look death in the face. To allow the old me to die. It's the gift Jeremiah's brother Jerome left for him, and the gift he wants for all his followers. Don't you wanna experience this gift for yourself? [points the gun at Selina] I know I want you to... Selina.

Selina Kyle:
[startled] You know me.

Ecco:
There isn't a single part of Bruce Wayne's life we don't know about. His joys, his disappointments, his... desires. But, just like Bruce wasn't ready to embrace his true self... looks like you aren't, either.

Selina Kyle:
May-be. [steps closer] But... one thing Jeremiah did teach me? [hisses] Is that I... hate...having a gun pointed at my face.

[She disarms Ecco and they fight]

Ecco:
[sneers] Oh, Puddin'... aren't you delicious!

[They continue fighting. Ecco retrieves the gun and pulls the trigger until it fires, but Selina catches her arm, then throws her to the ground and grabs the gun.]

Selina Kyle:
Don't... call me Puddin'! [She drags Ecco up and holds the gun to her head.]

Ecco:
[grins] There you go, Selina. I knew you had it in you! All it took was a little kick in the pants!

Alfred Pennyworth:
Forgive me, but I... heard on the grapevine that you and Captain Gordon had a rather heated exchange this morning.

Leslie Thompkins:
Oh, God. Was it that bad?

Alfred Pennyworth:
Apparently, it was like a session of the Italian Parliament.

[He sits beside her.]

Alfred Pennyworth:
You have misgivings about the arrival of this child, don't you?

Leslie Thompkins:
What am I getting myself into, Alfred? How am I supposed to raise a child alongside a psychopath like Barbara Kean? I mean, how the hell is this going to work? But... that's not all of it. If Jim and I are going to do this, we have to do it together. You know how he is. I don't know what's going on inside that man's head sometimes.

Alfred Pennyworth:
I think you'll find that he needs you a lot more than he's letting on.

Leslie Thompkins:
Well, I need to hear it from him. I never thought this was how my life was going to be.

Alfred Pennyworth:
I had no interest in being a father myself. I always presumed that I was unfit to be one. And then I found myself one night, staring down this alley at this little boy quite literally shaking with fear. I don't know, it's funny what life throws you. I am keenly aware that I am not Master Bruce's flesh and blood, but it's the moments... the little things, like when he uses a skill that I once taught him, or when we laugh at a joke that only he and I share... those have been some of the most ecstatic moments of my life. Nothing can possibly prepare you for that joy. The how's and the what's, you'll figure that stuff out. What matters is this: you'll be an exquisite mother, and that child - he, she - will be extraordinary because of you.

Oswald Cobblepot:
We saved this city from certain damnation, but will we receive any thanks for our loyalty, for our selfless bravery? Of course not!

Edward Nygma:
I don't want their thanks or their respect. You know what I felt, standing shoulder to shoulder with those people out there? Nothing. I feel absolutely nothing for those drab, boring people. That was me, once. Minimum wage at a thankless job at the GCPD. "Yes, sir." "No, sir." "Thank you so much, sir." Picking up scraps from my master's floor. Shy, awkward, pathetic Ed. Common criminals. Never again! I've shown this city who I truly am once before, and I'll do it again! They will bow to the Riddler, and they won't get up until I permit them to!

Oswald Cobblepot:
You're right. Our accomplishments erased. Our brilliant minds underrated. If they had let me run this city the way I wanted to, it would not be in ruins now. I had the men, the money, the guns...

Edward Nygma:
Gordon took them. Why? Because he still sees you as Fish Mooney's umbrella boy, and he always will. I only came back to help him save the city so I could take it myself!

Oswald Cobblepot:
We would be strong together. No one could stop us.

Edward Nygma:
Perhaps.

Oswald Cobblepot:
Let's make a pact, here and now. We will take what we want from who we want, and we will suffer no fools.

Edward Nygma:
Shall we shake on that?

Oswald Cobblepot:
Please, we're brothers. A hug.

Edward Nygma:
A hug it is.

[they embrace, and draw knives on each other, but cannot bring themselves to strike]

Oswald Cobblepot:
Life begins anew.

Edward Nygma:
Shall we get to work?

[Jeremiah has Gordon's daughter Barbara suspended by a rope at Ace Chemicals]

Jeremiah Valeska:
[As Gordon approaches, gun drawn] Come along, Commissioner! We're waiting. The party's raging, but it's well past the Princess's bedtime. It's funny, being back here. I can still feel my flesh sizzle as it melted away. It still burns, even now- oooh! [he suddenly lets the rope slide a little, causing Barbara to drop closer to one of the chemical vats]

Jim Gordon:
[To Barbara] I'm here! Everything's gonna be fine.

Jeremiah Valeska:
You think so? Personally, I'd say things are about as far away from "fine" as they could possibly be, Barbara Lee. What do I know? I did just spend the last ten years in the funny-farm [giggles].

Jim Gordon:
What do you want, Jeremiah?

Jeremiah Valeska:
[pretends to look around] ...Is there a "Jeremiah" here?

Jim Gordon:
So what do I call you?

Jeremiah Valeska:
Umm, I don't know. Call me...Jack! Mm, no, no, that's not right. Joseph! John, J... I don't know. I just... I feel something new, crawling from the primordial ooze that was me. Something... beautiful. [grins]

Jim Gordon:
How long have you been pretending to be brain-dead?

Jeremiah Valeska:
How long have you been pretending? That's a joke, I know you're not pretending. That's far enough, James. Ah-ta-ta. [he lets Barbara slide a bit further]

Jim Gordon:
But you still haven't told me. Why? Why keep pretending?

Jeremiah Valeska:
... I was waiting for him to come home. We're bound together, he and I. It's the one thing I knew for certain, the one thing... I knew was true. And then, he just...abandoned us. Do you know how it feels to have the one, the only thing you love, ripped away from you? [pause] Feels like this.

[He lets go of the rope, causing Barbara to fall.]

Jim Gordon:
NO!

[He grabs the rope and catches her, but Jeremiah draws a knife and stabs him in the shoulder, causing him to scream in pain]

Jeremiah Valeska:
[cackling] Disappointing as tonight was, I will say it is fun carving up "Fillet au Commissioner!"

[as he raises the knife again, a projectile suddenly knocks it out of his hand]

Jeremiah Valeska:
[draws a gun] Who's there? Whattaya want? Show yourself! Show yourself!

[He suddenly sees a dark figure approaching]

Jeremiah Valeska:
...You.
