Heroes, Season 4 (Volume 5: Redemption)

Samuel:
My brother Joseph and I have had two families. The first one... well let's just say it didn't work out too well. But over the years, we made ourselves a new one. And it was to this family, all of you, that his heart really belonged. You see, a family is something that Joseph and I needed. It offers protection from the outside world. A world that never understood or appreciated what makes us different. There are others like us out there, in the shadows, in the light. Each grasping for a meaning in a world that won't accept them for who they really are. They, like us, are blessed, gifted with extraordinary abilities. And they, like us, struggle with finding their place in an ordinary world. Haunted by their past from those who would harm them and keep them from their destiny. Every one of them deserves a chance to be who they really are. But to what end? For what purpose? Here in this place, we offer salvation. We offer hope, we offer redemption. And one by one, they will come to our side, to our family. And they will find their way home. And all who have gathered, will be strong. And all who have gathered, will stand in unison. I say it's time we found our way back home again. Find your way home, brother.

Noah:
And here I was thinking that I'd be the one that got away

Tracy:
No. You're just number five.

Noah:
Five's my lucky number. Well, it used to be. Is it still lucky?

Tracy:
I haven't decided yet.

Claire:
I don't wanna be anyone other than me. I just wanna be Claire Bennet, daughter of Noah Bennet.

Parkman:
I'm out.

Angela:
There's no such thing as out detective. Not for people like us.

Noah:
It's not healthy to live alone, Peter. No connections to anybody. It's a dead end. Trust me, I'm Exhibit A. Four years, I put my job ahead of my family, and now my kids are off at school and I'm eating cereal for dinner and a strange man is answering my wife's phone

Sylar:
Hi. My name is Sylar. It's been about six weeks or so since I've seen my body, and I want it back.

Samuel:
I bet there's some butterflies that you could change. I mean, why not make this trip worthwhile?

Hiro:
No, you can never change the past. It's bad, always. Everything is connected.

Samuel:
Not everything. Sometimes if you want to change one thing, that's all you do.

Sylar:
Not as easy to ignore me as you thought. It's because I ooze charm.

Claire:
Dad! What're you doing here?

Noah:
"Hey, Dad. Nice to see you. Thanks for bringing the housewarming presents."

Sylar:
Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Now, they can all be like this... or you and I can go find my body.

Claire:
You're not fine living off cereal and Japanese takeout.

Noah:
Well, that is a good point. Tonight I order Italian.

Claire:
Okay, say, you're at the interview. And I'm the interviewer and you're the interviewee.

Noah:
Oh, are we really...?

Claire:
Tell me, Mr. Bennet, what do you think your greatest strength as a salesman is?

Noah:
Well, if they won't buy from me, I can always just shoot them.

Nathan":
Every time there's a secret buried someplace, I find you with a shovel behind your back.

Angela:
You should write Mother's Day cards.

Claire:
Life changes. We all change. Maybe you have to remember who you were to figure out who you want to be.

Noah:
Why do I suddenly feel like your the parent and I'm the kid?

Claire:
We'll take turns.

Hiro:
Find something you like to do. Then it doesn't feel like work.

Hiro:
Life is a gift, precious and short, not [to be] wasted by jumping off a roof.

Hiro:
Don't keep secrets. Not from the ones you love. Especially family members.

Noah:
Nice seeing you here. Am I that predictable?

Tracy:
You live upstairs.

Noah:
Life changes Tracy. We all have to change with it. Maybe you just can't go home again. Maybe you have to remember who you were to figure out who you want to be.

Hiro:
I have so many stories to share with you, Kimiko. I just hope I have time to tell you them all.

Samuel:
This is my favorite part of the day. It's full of possibility, before the inevitable monkey wrenches come looking for us. But more than anything, it's about being with all of you. I know grace is a supper thing; but every morning, I thank heaven and earth for our family. Sadly, Joseph's death has left us an empty seat, a broken circle. But I feel like we're on the way to mend it. There are lost lambs out there. They're like us, but they're hiding, alone, pretending to be that, which they are not. It's sad, pathetic. These people, they desperately need what we have - understanding, unconditional love, family, trust. Who are we to deny anyone that? Today is an important day for us, our family; and for one of them, too. Because by day's end, we will have a full table again. Eat.

Rebecca:
Hey, I'm so glad you came back. I, I was worried you'd get cold feet.

Claire:
No, my feet are actually very toasty in here.

Samuel:
[first lines] A broken vessel. An empty shell. What is a man without mind? Without memory? A ghost? A body, in search of a soul? With no compass to guide us, how can we know if our destiny is to seek the good... or obey the demons that whisper in our ear? The blank slate hungers to be written upon. The body thrives when the heart has a mission.

Claire:
Peter? How'd you get in the bathroom?

Peter:
It's been a long time since I've... teleported.

Hiro:
Oh - go away! I have no more blood left! No more blood!

Emma:
Blood? Uh... I'm sorry, I... I read lips, but yours move differently.

Hiro:
Oh, sorry. Japanese accent.

Hiro:
I am the master of time and space. Well, I was. Lately, time and space has been the master of me.

Hiro:
Manifesting a power is a wondrous time. A hero never refuses the call.

Emma:
I'm deaf. I can't hear the call.

Hiro:
And now, to assist Hiro the Magnificent, please welcome to the stage Emma the... also Magnificent!

Samuel:
We need to jump-start the real Sylar. Wake the sleeping lion.

Sylar:
Forbidden fruit. My favorite kind.

Matt:
You can't control me. You've never been able to do that.

Sylar:
Well, I had a compelling reason. Let's face it, your wife is kinda hot.

Matt:
Enough!

Sylar:
That is the second Parkman I made scream today.

Sylar:
You're so desperate to fit in. Why can't you accept your power? Why do you insist on being... so forgettable?

Tracy:
Do we have to be invisible? You ever think we could just live, Noah? Out in the open?

Noah:
Not after today, no.

Sylar:
Let me guess - you want your body back? Did you think you were actually winning? The second you blacked out, I slipped right in. Now I'm in the driver's seat.

Matt:
You'll never get away with this.

Sylar:
[in Parkman's body] I already have.

Samuel:
My family is shrinking and our graveyard's getting bigger. We need Hiro Nakamura.

Lydia:
You said he was on a path.

Samuel:
And it's a damn long walk. We need him now. It's not gonna be easy.

Lydia:
Oh, come on, you can convince an apple that it's an orange.

Hiro:
I'm the good guy.

Pistol Petey:
Good guys wear white hats.

Hiro:
I will tell you how you die. You die alone. I'm sorry.

Sylar:
What the hell is that supposed to mean?

Hiro:
It means that you will collect a lot of powers. You'll kill many people. You'll become strong, the strongest of them all. But in the end, it won't make any difference. We all gather to stop you. You're alone. No one will mourn your death. No one will shed a tear. No one. I wish I can change fate. But you must go on your path.

Noah:
The course of true love never did run smooth.

Lydia:
Sounds to me like the Claire Bennet recruitment is a... lost cause.

Samuel:
Well, you know me. I'm the patron saint of lost causes.

Matt:
He was helping you.

Sylar:
Exactly. In his death, he has helped me prove a point about the line.

Matt:
What line?

Sylar:
The one I can cross, and you can't. The one that says I can do anything I want, like killing people in cold blood.

Matt:
No, you can't just...

Sylar:
The world is my hostage, Matt. Anybody. Anytime.

Claire:
That was fast.

Noah:
My daughter calls, I drop everything.

Samuel:
A family is more than blood. It's about trust, about love. About those who embrace you - the real you. Unconditionally.

Samuel:
You were stalling. You kept me talking.

Claire:
You seem to like to talk.

Sylar:
What the hell are you doing?

Matt:
I'm crossing that line. You told me that I'm not man enough to take a life? Well, you know what, you're wrong. 'cause I'm gonna take yours.

Sylar:
You're an idiot. You'll die with me.

Matt:
Yeah... [he puffs out] I know.

Tracy:
Great. I panic attack with powers.

Sylar:
I don't have time for all the five stages of grief. Let's go right from denial to acceptance.

Nathan:
To the rest of the world, I'm Nathan Petrelli, Pete. But every time you look at me - the way you're looking at me right now - you're gonna see Sylar. Tell me I'm wrong. Tell me I'm wrong, Pete.

Lydia:
You know, Hiro... I think we can help each other. I could use my ability.

Hiro:
Really?

Lydia:
[removing her clothes] I can be inside of your soul. We can be... as one.

Hiro:
[turns away] Painted lady! I think you are trying to seduce me. You should know, my heart belongs to Charlie!

Lydia:
I'm sorry, if I'm making you feel uncomfortable. But... I need contact - closeness, to make this work.

Hiro:
Of course. Every ability has a different set of rules.

Lydia:
I can feel what you feel, Hiro. Touch me.

Lydia:
Is this it? Is this the night that Joseph gets murdered?

Hiro:
I don't know. But it is very dangerous to be here. We must go before we step on a... [Lydia walks off] ...butterfly.

Sylar:
[to Angela] You have raised the evil incarnate bar to an entirely new level. Thank you, for giving me something to strive for.

Hiro:
Sometimes a hero has to run away, to live to fight another day.

Samuel:
Only the guilty turn tail and run.

Hiro:
Must rescue Watson. Scotty, beam me up!

Angela:
Please, Peter, think about what you're doing.

Peter:
I have. Gonna go get Nathan back.

Angela:
What happens when you find out there's not a Nathan to get back?

Peter:
I guess I'll just settle for revenge.

Samuel:
[to Eli the multiplier] I wanna ask a favor. With Edgar gone, will you do me the honor of being my right-hand man? Or should I say 'men'?

Claire:
[when arriving at the carnival] I always said I belonged in a freak show. I just never took it so literally.

Claire:
Maybe I can be the girl who gets sawed in half every night.

Gretchen:
Now, that's something to aspire to.

Samuel:
The path of least resistance is sometimes the wisest.

Samuel:
My brother Joseph had the right idea. He believed that alone, this family would be safe. And that idea has worked for us for years. But how long can we live like this, wandering in the desert without a home? Times change, and we need to change with them. We need to stop running, stop living in the shadows. We should be stronger; the problem is, there's simply too few of us to make a stand. If we are truly to be great, we need to grow our ranks, bring in new members. And the newest among us cannot be shackled with the same burden we've borne, wandering like nomads. They deserve a home. A promised land. Now, I thought a lot about exactly where this homeland should be, and I keep coming back to this very spot. Here we will plant roots, and build a life, a community. Here we will be oppressed no longer, here we will live our lives on our own terms. But none of that can happen until we have gathered the rest. And when we have done that, we will return to this place. We will wander no longer. We will finally... be home.

Mohinder :
[voiceover] There are many ways to define our fragile existence, many ways to give them meaning. But it is our memories that shapes its purpose and give it context. The private collection of images, fears, loves, regrets… we choose the important of each. Building our own unique histories, one memory at a time. Hoping the ones we chose to remember don't betray us or trap us. Forces the cruel irony of life that we are destiny to hold the dark with the light, the good with the evil. This is what separates us, what make us human. And at the end, we must fight to hold on.

Claire:
Freedom is what you do with what's been done to you.

Samuel:
Sounds deep.

Claire:
Sartre. College.

Samuel:
[chuckles] I always thought freedom was just another word for 'nothing left to lose'.

Claire:
That too.

Ando:
Hiro, I am... at your service. I guess I am the sidekick.

Hiro:
The bravest one I know.

Peter:
My brother Nathan taught me a lot. Taught me... how to ride a skateboard when I was a kid... how to hook a marlin. Taught me how to... catch a baseball. Those are all things... usually a father'll teach his son. But Dad wasn't around. So it was Nathan. I wish to hell it would've been my father; because Nathan didn't make it easy. He would throw it high or... he'd throw it wide, and I would yell at him, and tell him to throw it right at me; but he'd say to me, "That's not how it's gonna come at you in a game, Pete." I used to think he was being a big brother and was just pickin' on me. But now I understand. He just wanted me to be ready. For anything. [he places his hand on Nathan's casket] I'm ready, brother. For whatever comes.

Claire:
[on Nathan] I can't believe he's gone. Well, I hope he could find heaven, because he was a terrible navigator. I mean, for a guy who could fly.

Angela:
Nathan was right. You need to fight the good fight. Revenge will only get you killed. And I cannot bear to lose you too.

Peter:
Look, I promised my brother that I'd be a hero. Don't make me a liar. Not today.

Noah:
[to Edgar] You like tea? Stupid question, you're British.

Lauren:
You know, the thing about burned bridges is, they can be rebuilt.

Noah:
It's nasty out there, Matt. But shoving your head in the sand doesn't make the world go away.

Matt:
Yeah, well, you never know until you try, do you?

Noah:
This Sullivan guy - he's a very bad man.

Matt:
Well, so is Bin Laden.

Angela:
People think that dreaming the future is a gift. They're wrong.

Hiro:
[after Ando has accidentally swallowed drugs] Nap time for Sancho.

Sylar:
I don't wanna be alone. And somehow, you're supposed to help me.

Claire:
I wouldn't help you if my life depended on it.

Sylar:
It's not your life you should be concerned about.

Kaito:
[in the role of the judge] What is the case before us?

Adam:
The world versus Hiro Nakamura, your honor.

Hiro:
The what versus what?

Ando:
The defense calls Hiro Nakamura to the stand.

Hiro:
[aghast] Have you seen "Law & Order"? That always backfires.

Hiro:
I found myself leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong.

Adam:
Objection your honor, he's reciting the opening to Quantum Leap.

Hiro:
If this is the end, then I want to go out with honor, doing the right thing. I want to go out a hero.

Kaito:
Go, my son. Fight for your honor.

Samuel:
Now I'm done trying to change myself for you. Trying to fit into your world. To play by your rules. From now on... you're all gonna play it by mine!

Matt:
Are you back inside my head?

Sylar:
That's so two months ago.

[Sylar has asked Parkman to take away his powers]

Matt:
How am I supposed to do that?

Sylar:
Create a mental block, repress them, I don't really care, to be honest. All I know is that once I'm free from the temptation of my ability...

Matt:
M-hm? You're gonna be normal? I'm sorry, that ship sailed, what, fifty murders ago?

Sylar:
Maybe you need a little more motivation. You will purge me of these powers, Parkman, or I will use them. I will use them all. And trust me, I can get really creative.

Samuel:
Did I ever tell you the first carnival act that Joseph and I ever saw was the trapeze? The way they flung themselves through the air, we both thought they had powers, just like us. But when we went backstage, the man told us the only power he had was gravity. No matter how high he went, it was always there to catch him. I've come to realize that gravity is different things to people. For much of my life, Joseph was mine.

Samuel:
What I did was wrong, I know that. But I was willing to sacrifice myself to protect you. To save this family that we've all come to love. But the outside world has proven once again that people like us will never be accepted. We've all seen it - in the eyes of those who come to see our shows... dazzled by our abilities, but filled with revulsion over who we are. I saw it again yesterday, in that small town over the hill. And today in the bullets that struck me and murdered our dear Lydia. It's time. It's time we put fear behind us. It's time we showed the world... what we truly are.

Sylar:
What so we can save what's-her-name? [Peter punches him in the face]

Peter:
Her name's Emma.

Sylar:
I can't bring Nathan back Peter, but I can sure as Hell swing a sledgehammer.

Samuel:
Do you know how powerful I can really be? If I brought them all here? My brother said I could move mountains, cities. I wonder, is it true? Can I change the world?

Lauren:
I hope to God we never find out.

Samuel:
Claire, you will inherit this new world; it's your legacy. And you will remind them what I've done long after I've gone. That's why it's so important for you to be a part of our family.

Claire:
You are desperate. And you're small. I will never be a part of your family.

Noah:
It doesn't matter what I believe anymore. Because the whole world is about to find out about you. We can thank Samuel for that.

Claire:
Maybe it won't be so bad. Maybe the world is more ready than you think it is. Things change.

Noah:
Sure. There might be curiosity for a while, but all it takes is one Sylar, and then the pitchforks come out and all hell breaks loose. I've seen it. They will turn on you, Claire. It's human nature. You're right. Things change. But people don't.

Ando:
Hiro, there's no such thing as stepping on a "small butterfly".

Doyle:
Sylar, please. Listen to me. Please, Samuel made me do it.

Sylar:
Really? 'Cause I thought you were the puppet master.

Doyle:
Oh, come on. What do you care about this girl, anyway?

Sylar:
I am here to save her.

Doyle:
That's not you. You're like me.

Sylar:
No... I'm a hero.

[Peter tackles Samuel off-stage with flight then battles him with his own power]

Samuel:
I see you've found my power!

Peter:
Funny how that works isn't it? I'm not gonna let you hurt anyone now.

Samuel:
Peter, you of all people should know they have to fear us! That's the only way they'll respect us. All you've ever wanted is respect. We both know what it's like to live in the shadow of a brother. Joseph destroyed my potential, kept me down, just like your brother.

Peter:
My brother didn't let me down. He built me up.

Noah:
I gotta say, I never liked carnivals.

Sylar:
That's right... It's a brave new world.

Claire:
My name is Claire Bennet, and this is attempt number... I guess I've kinda lost count.

Sylar:
You do exactly what I do. You use this gift, this curse, whatever it is, to build walls, make impossible to actually connect with another person.

Sylar:
All these interactions, and you still can't say the one thing you really want to say to this girl. Heck, you keep this up, you might end up alone forever, too.

Claire:
He's had me trying to figure out what his issues are.

Gretchen:
Seriously? How'd that go?

Claire:
Pencil in the eye.

Claire:
I like to think of myself as just a girl who happens to have powers. And it's just one thing in a list of attributes—loyal, friendly, regenerative, good skin, you know.

Gretchen:
You do have good skin.

Claire:
But when you put the chips down and life gets tough, I hide behind that one label, that one attribute. And I close myself off. No wonder Sylar is so messed up. I can only imagine what having a bunch of excuses could do to someone's humanity.
