Mr. Robot, Season 3

Mr. Robot (2015–19) is an American USA Network drama about a young computer programmer and hacker Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) who suffers from social anxiety and depression and is recruited into a hacktivist group by a mysterious anarchist known as "Mr. Robot" (Christian Slater). The group aims to cancel almost of all of the world's debts by attacking the massive conglomerate E Corp.

Elliot:
Darlene’s right. I can’t trust them. This was too easy. But at least I stopped them. For now. I can go home knowing that. But was she right about me? Am I sticking my head in the sand? Did my revolution just bury our minds instead of freeing them? Encrypting Evil Corp’s data was meant to empower us, but instead, it left us powerless, scaring us into even more submission. Five/Nine didn’t get rid of the invisible hand. It turned it into a fist that punched us in the dick. And, like a botnet, the fear I created is spreading so fast, it’s practically airborne. It’s swallowed us whole, digested us, and now we’re stuck in its asshole, waiting to be dumped out. And while we’re here, they are having their way with us. They’ve packaged our fight into product, turned our dissent into intellectual property, televising our revolution with commercial breaks. They’ve backdoored into our minds and robbed our truth, refurbished the facts, then marked up the price. This is what they do. This is what they’re good at. This is their greatest trick. Lobotomizing us into their virtual reality horror show. And this all started because I tried to hide from society. Remember? [Fuck society.] Yeah, I fucked society all right. I reset it to zero and if I don’t do anything about it, it’ll continue to grow in this malignant way. And that’s what I’m afraid of the most. This dark future I set in motion. Who knows what could come from this… What if, instead of fighting back, we cave? Give away our privacy for security. Exchange dignity for safety. Trade in revolution for repression. What if we choose weakness over strength? They’ll even have us build our own prison. This is what they wanted all along. For us to buy in on our worst selves. And I just made it easier for them. I didn’t start a revolution; I just made us docile enough for their slaughtering. And I can stand here and blame Evil Corp and every other conglomerate out there for taking advantage of us. Blame the FBI, NSA, CIA for letting them get away with this. Blame all the world’s leaders for aiding and abetting them. Blame Adam Smith for inventing modern-day capitalism in the first fucking place. Blame money for dividing us. Blame us for letting it. But none of that’s true. The truth is, I’m the one to blame. I’m the problem. This was my fault. All of it. I did this.

[Mr. Robot attempts to shoot Tyrell. The gun misfires.]

Tyrell:
Don't you see what just happened? [as Mr. Robot unjams the gun] Wait, wait, wait! Do you not understand what just happened?!

Mr. Robot:
The only thing that happened is the gun jammed. It won't happen again.

Tyrell:
No, no, no, this is proof! Don't you understand, this is proof!

Mr. Robot:
Proof of what?

[Tyrell breaks down laughing.]

Mr. Robot:
Proof. Of. What?!

Tyrell:
When you told me I couldn't see what was above me, only in front of me...

Mr. Robot:
What the fuck are you talking about?

Tyrell:
We... are gods.

Mr. Robot:
You really are a lunatic.

Tyrell:
You held that gun point blank at me and fired. And yet, I'm standing right here talking to you. What are the chances?

Mr. Robot:
I don't know, but shit happens all the time!

Tyrell:
This wasn't chance! This was an act of God. And we have been invited into His circle to lead this revolution.

Mr. Robot:
You haven't been invited anywhere! You forced yourself in--

Tyrell:
There's more to your plan than this. You're smart enough to know that this hack alone isn't gonna kill EvilCorp. Once they realize they can't recover the data, they'll figure out a way to recreate it. And that's where you'll need me. Don't you see it yet? Now, the first time we met, I felt something between us. This is what I felt. An uncanny connection, a bond. We are meant to work together! That's what this is has all been about.

Mr. Robot:
"Work together"? You're a psychopath. How do I even trust you?

[Tyrell puts his head up to the barrel of the gun.]

Tyrell:
Pull the trigger again. I'll accept whatever fate decides. Pull it!

[Mr. Robot rips it away.]

Mr. Robot:
Okay, Looney Tunes! You're right. There is a second stage to this. After tonight, I... I don't know what kinda support I'll have. I could use your help.

[Tyrell hugs Elliot.]

Tyrell:
Thank you, Elliot. I love y--

Mr. Robot:
Some things are better left unsaid. Subtext, you know?
