Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., or simply Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., is an American television series created for ABC by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen, based on the Marvel Comics organization S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division), a fictional peacekeeping and spy agency in a world of superheroes. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films and other television series of the franchise. The series is produced by ABC Studios, Marvel Television, and Mutant Enemy Productions, with Jed Whedon, Tancharoen, and Jeffrey Bell serving as showrunners. The series revolves around the character of Phil Coulson, with Clark Gregg reprising his role from the film series, and his team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, who must deal with various unusual cases and enemies, including Hydra, the Inhumans, and alien species such as the Kree. Joss Whedon began developing a S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot following the success of his film The Avengers, and Gregg was confirmed to reprise his role in October 2012. The series was officially picked up by ABC in May 2013, and also stars Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge, with Nick Blood, Adrianne Palicki, Henry Simmons, Luke Mitchell, John Hannah, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, and Jeff Ward joining in later seasons. Prosthetic makeup is created with Glenn Hetrick's Optic Nerve Studios, while Legacy Effects contributes other practical effects. The visual effects for the series are created by FuseFX, and have been nominated for multiple awards. Several episodes directly crossover with films or other television series set in the MCU, while other characters from MCU films and Marvel One-Shots also appear throughout the series. The first season originally aired from September 24, 2013, to May 13, 2014, while the second season aired from September 23, 2014, to May 12, 2015. A third season premiered on September 29, 2015, concluding on May 17, 2016, and the fourth season premiered on September 20, 2016, and concluded on May 16, 2017. A fifth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiered on December 1, 2017 and concluded on May 18, 2018. In May 2018, the series was renewed for a sixth season, intended to air in July 2019. In November 2018, ahead of the sixth season's release, the series was renewed for a seventh season. After starting the first season with high ratings but mixed reviews, the ratings began to drop while reviews improved. This led to much lower but more consistent ratings, as well as more consistently positive reviews in the subsequent seasons. Several characters created for the series have since been introduced to the comic universe and other media. A spin-off series, centered on Blood and Palicki's characters Lance Hunter and Bobbi Morse and titled Marvel's Most Wanted, received a pilot order in August 2015, but it was ultimately passed on in May 2016. An online digital series, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot, centered on Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez, was launched in December 2016 on ABC.com.

Phil Coulson:
Stupid, stupid, stupid, and cruel, and very stupid!

Nick Fury:
I think you've made your point.

Phil Coulson:
Why bring me back in the first place. Clearly I didn't think it was the best idea. I warned you about people losing their minds.

Nick Fury:
Agent May was on top of the situation, she says you're fine. Aren't you? It was a break glass in case of emergency situation.

Phil Coulson:
Yes, but that emergency was supposed to be the fall of an Avenger.

Nick Fury:
Exactly. And I'm damned glad I did it too. When you wanna build something you need a strong foundation. You know how few people I trust, Coulson.

Phil Coulson:
You can count them on one hand.

Nick Fury:
And I'm not afraid to cut off fingers. The principle SHIELD was founded on was pure.

Melinda May:
Protection.

Nick Fury:
Protection. One word. Sometimes to protect one man from himself, other times to protect the planet against an alien invasion from another universe. It's a broad job description.

Phil Coulson:
No need to tell me.

Nick Fury:
But the belief that drives us all is the same. Whether it's one man, or all mankind.

Phil Coulson:
That they're worth saving.

Nick Fury:
That truth lives inside you, Coulson. Before it was torn apart, S.H.I.E.L.D. was a lot of moving parts. Guys like you were the heart. Now you'll be the head.

Phil Coulson:
What is it?

Nick Fury:
Toolbox. To help you build it back up.

Phil Coulson:
You want me to start over, rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D.

Nick Fury:
From scratch. Take your time, and do it right. You'll still have his back.

Melinda May:
Of course.

Nick Fury:
There's no one else I trust with this.

Phil Coulson:
Thank you, sir. How do you... How should I proceed?

Nick Fury:
That's up to you, Director.

Phil Coulson:
I felt bad for kidnapping you. So, I brought you a peace offering. Carl Creel.

Brigadier General Glenn Talbot:
I thought Creel was dead.

Phil Coulson:
He's turned to stone, but he could always do that, so I'm not sure how long it'll hold. I've got him in a cryo-stasis chamber in the back of the van for

[checks his watch]

Phil Coulson:
58 more minutes. Before the juice runs out. I'd... get him some place secure pretty quick. Maybe a little more secure than last time? Just sayin'.

Brigadier General Glenn Talbot:
Very generous of you.

Phil Coulson:
Like I told you before, General, we're the good guys. So, how about we make a deal? S.H.I.E.L.D. will keep dropping off presents like this. You keep getting promoted. All we ask for in return is a little breathing room. Sound good?

Brigadier General Glenn Talbot:
[laughing, pointing his finger at Coulson] You... you must have some big brass ones, Coulson. Coming out here by yourself to meet me. Face to face. No backup.

[Makes a macho sound in his throat. Coulson just smiles]

Brigadier General Glenn Talbot:
Let's face facts. You and your little band of misfits are hardly S.H.I.E.L.D. Our intel says you don't have enough man power or artillery to take down a convenience store. So, I'm sorry, I'm gonna hafta to say no to that deal.

Phil Coulson:
I don't know. I think we're good on artillery.

[Looks up. The Quinn jet decloaks just above them]

Phil Coulson:
In case you get any ideas, General. That's just the tip of the iceberg.

[Walking towards another jet decloaking on the ground, under his breath]

Phil Coulson:
Let's get out of here before the iceberg runs out of fuel.

Skye:
I know that face, something gives me a feeling I should be sitting down for this.

Phil Coulson:
I've been looking for a way to tell you this, looking around for some answers, something to help... explain... but I don't have any. So... the drug, the one who saved us both - when we found it, I discovered something else. Its source. It was... alien.

Skye:
A-Alien, as in... unfamiliar?

Phil Coulson:
No.

Skye:
Wow.

Phil Coulson:
The minute I learned what it was, I tried to keep them from injecting you with it, but I was too late. I'm so sorry, Skye.

Skye:
You were trying to save my life. You *did* save my life.

Phil Coulson:
I was desperate to, and I subjected you to unknown ramifications or side effects.

Skye:
I'm sorry to say this, sir, but... so what? We are alive. And you've had that in you, uh, for some time now, and you're okay, right? Plus, you're not sprouting a pointy tail or anything, so bonus there.

Phil Coulson:
I know nothing fazes you, but this should faze you. We are completely in the dark on this.

Skye:
That's where we live. I'm an 0-8-4. Who knows what the hell that means? At least we're in the dark together.

Phil Coulson:
Yes. But not for long. To hell with any protocols or any code I used to bound by. We have a long list of questions we need answers for, and we're going after them ourselves.

Skye:
Well, if the team's up for it...

Phil Coulson:
No. No, listen to me. I trust them, but we need to protect them from this. Fury went to dangerous lengths to keep this under wraps - lied to me, lied to S.H.I.E.L.D. This is a powerful secret, a secret men died for. Until we know why, we can't share this with anyone, for their safety and ours.

Skye:
Got it. So what'll it be, A.C.? What do we go after first?

Phil Coulson:
The person responsible for this. And we make him pay.
