Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He was also good at seeing things that others missed. And one day, Franklin found something special.

Beaver:
Franklin, are you ready to play?

Franklin Turtle:
Yep, ready, Beaver!

Beaver:
It's Beaver into her stretch. She checks the runners, and...

[pitches baseball poorly]

Beaver:
ugh, oops.

Franklin Turtle:
It's not our camera.

Beaver:
No, it's yours. You found it. Finders keepers.

Franklin Turtle:
[looking at a photo] Look, dad! The camera belongs to the Raccoon family.

Bear:
They'll be glad to get the camera back.

Franklin Turtle:

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He had the same friends ever since he could remember. Franklin never thought about making new friends, until a new family moved in.

Mr. Owl:
As we were discussing yesterday, does anyone have any ideas about how our class can raise some money for a few new books? yes, Beaver?

Beaver:
We've already decided for ourselves. We'd like to have a bake sale.

Mr. Owl:
That's a wonderful idea, Beaver.

Beaver:
But no fly cookies, please.

Franklin Turtle:
Aw, no one ever buys them, anyway.

Franklin Turtle:
A moose family, mom! I've never seen a moose before. They're huge. Huge! Even the small one is huge.

Mrs. Turtle:
That's nice. Maybe you'll make a new friend.

Franklin Turtle:
No, I don't think so. I've got lots of old friends and I don't think I need a new one, especially a big one like that.

Franklin Turtle:
How can someone as big as Moose be afraid of anything?

Mr. Owl:
Good question. You see, big or little, we all get scared sometimes. Even Moose.

Moose:
[offscreen, as the schoolhouse is shown] Now that one, I think, should go on there.

Franklin Turtle:
[places flag on a castle] That's perfect!

Bear:
Oh boy, recess. Gee, you guys are always together.

Franklin Turtle:
Don't worry, Bear. You'll always be my best friend, but Moose is my best *new* friend. Come on!

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He loved to play tag and hide-and-seek or fly kites with his friends. But one day, Franklin wanted to do the things that big kids do.

Bear:
[walking shakily on top of a fence, alongside a pile of red leaves] Whoa. Whoa! That was close.

Franklin Turtle:
Careful, Captain Bear! You don't want to fall into the Red Sea!

Beaver:
So, Franklin, when are you going to get your own paper route?

Franklin Turtle:
[disliking Bear's suggestion of using a wagon to help carry newspapers] We'll look like a couple of little kids.

Bear:
But Franklin, we are a couple of little kids.

Jack:
You know, I haven't flown a kite in ages. Do you think I could...?

Bear:
Sure!

Franklin Turtle:
Okay.

Jack:
Neat!

Franklin Turtle:
Yeah, neat.

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could spin on his shell and hide inside, too. But one day, Franklin had a small problem with his shell and he was worried what his friends would say.

Bear:
[flying a model plane] Whoa! Look out, butterfly!

Beaver:
It was almost run over!

Franklin Turtle:
Didn't your mother tell you to look both ways before you cross the meadow?

Franklin Turtle:
Aw, you guys are the best friends in the world. [giggles] But you sure look funny.

Beaver:
[gasps] Did you hear that?

Bear:
Yeah! Let's get him!

Franklin Turtle:
Hold it! [He adjusts the cap on his shell so no water can get in] All right. Come and get me.

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could sharpen his pencil and draw a straight line with his ruler. And this was good because today Franklin was going to school for the first time.

Mrs. Turtle:
You're a real keener, aren't you?

Franklin Turtle:
What's a "keener?"

Mrs. Turtle:
It means you're enthusiastic. You're eager to get to school and start learning.

Mr. Turtle:
You know, I had to walk to school when I was a kid.

Mrs. Turtle:
We know. 2 1/2 miles?

Snail:
The teacher might want me to count to a kazillion and 46, or ask me to spell chrysanthe... chrysanthe...

Franklin Turtle:
Chrysanthemum?

Narrator:
Franklin could slide down a riverbank. He could zip zippers and button buttons. He could even walk to Bear's house all by himself. But even so, Franklin was not allowed to go in the woods alone.

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could zip zippers and button buttons. So Franklin though he was big enough for his first sleepover.

Bear:
My Mom and Dad really *aren't* so far away.

Franklin Turtle:
How does your tummy feel now, Bear?

Bear:
Starting to get hungry again.

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He knew the days of the week, the months of the year and the holidays in the every season. Franklin knew todays was October 31st. It was Halloween.

Beaver:
The best part of Halloween is all the scary stuff. Woooo.

Mrs. Turtle:
Hi, Franklin.

Franklin Turtle:
How'd you know it was me?

Mrs. Turtle:
Special Mother powers.

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He knew that he could always share his concerns with his parents, but one day something happened that Franklin didn't tell them.

Franklin Turtle:
Wahoo! Watch this, Bear. A 360 kick turn.

Bear:
That's great, Franklin!

Mrs. Turtle:
Well done!

Mrs. Bear:
Very impressive.

Bear:
How are we going to dig up potatoes without scratching?

Franklin Turtle:
Just keep both hands on the shovel and don't think about it.

Franklin Turtle:
Let's leave for home with plenty of time spare, okay?

Bear:
Okay. And no shortcuts.

Franklin Turtle:
Right. No shortcuts.

["Franklin Forgives"]

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He liked to go on picnics with his Mom and Dad and his sister, Harriet. But one day, he brought along a special friend too.

Franklin Turtle:
These are bulrushes, Goldie. See how soft and fuzzy they are?

Mrs. Turtle:
Franklin, come and put on some sunscreen.

Franklin Turtle:
Okay, mom. I'm showing Goldie around, mom. She's never seen the pond before.

Mr. Turtle:
And I've never seen anyone bring a fish to a picnic before.

Bear:
Maybe Goldie's doing some sightseeing. Maybe she's met some friendly minnows or tadpoles.

Bear:
It's like my dad says, "Sometimes you have to forgive and forget."

Franklin Turtle:
But I don't wanna forget Goldie!

Franklin Turtle:
You want me to forgive and forget too?

Mr. Turtle:
No, just the forgive part. As for forgetting, well I'm sure you'll never forget Goldie.

Franklin Turtle:
All right, I'll think about it.

Mr. Turtle:
Thanks, Franklin. Good night.

Franklin Turtle:
Boy, did we ever miss you, Goldie! I bet you're really hungry.

Mr. Turtle:
I could make Goldie some of my famous pancakes.

Franklin Turtle:
Dad. Goldie can't eat pancakes. But I can.

Mrs. Turtle:
Sounds like your stomach is feeling better.

Franklin Turtle:
You're right. I feel okay now. Can Beaver stay for breakfast?

Mrs. Turtle:
Of course.

Beaver:
Gee, thanks!

Franklin Turtle:
Hey, dad, can you make pancakes shaped like fish?

Mr. Turtle:
I think I could manage that.

Mrs. Turtle:
As long as they don't taste like fish.

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He liked playing games with his little sister and reading books to her before naptime. But there was one book that Franklin thought he had read quite enough of.

[Harriet giggles]

Franklin Turtle:
And then he jumped in the pond with a great big splash and lived happily ever after. The end.

Harriet Turtle:
Again! Again!

Franklin Turtle:
[reciting contents of book from memory] Once upon a time, there was a happy green frog, who hopped everywhere he went. One day, he hopped down to the pond, where the other frogs lived.

Bear:

Franklin Turtle:
And the happy green frog said ribbit ribbit...

Harriet Turtle:
Froggy, froggy!

Franklin Turtle:

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He liked playing knights and he liked building castles. And one day, Franklin met a friend who liked just the same things.

Bear:
[after Franklin has sent Betty away] Why'd you do that, Franklin?

Franklin Turtle:
I don't want everyone to think she's my girlfriend, Bear.

Bear:
So what's wrong with having a friend who's a girl?

Franklin Turtle:
[handing Betty an umbrella] Your sword, my friend.

Betty:
Thank you, Sir Franklin.

Beaver:

Franklin Turtle:
Take that! [his umbrella pops open] Whoa!

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He liked caring for hid gold fish and tending his garden. But, when Franklin found out he was getting his very own tree to plant, he had such big plans.

Beaver:
I've got a special place for you in our front yard.

Rabbit:
What kind did you get, Beaver?

Beaver:
An ash tree. So do you know what I'm going to call it? Ashley.

Franklin Turtle:
Do you think my tree will be big enough for a tree fort some day?

Mr. Heron:
It's quite possible, Franklin. As I said, even the largest tree grows from the smallest twig.

Franklin Turtle:
Bear, do you want to come to my house and help me plant my tree?

Bear:
Sure.

Franklin Turtle:
Then, come on. We've got to get this in the garden. It has a lot of growing to do. Bye, Mr. Heron.

Bear:
See you later, Mr. Heron.

Mr. Heron:
Good-bye, boys. And have a happy Earth Day.

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could reach for the cookie jar without a chair and he could lift a basket of apples with one hand. But one day, Franklin wondered if he had what it took to be a hero.

Franklin Turtle:
Hey, let's pretend we're real rescue heroes. My name can be... Turtle-roo.

Snail:
And I can be Dyna-snail.

Franklin Turtle:
Together, we'll keep the world safe!

Franklin Turtle:
But heroes are really strong.

Snail:
Yeah, and really fast.

Mr. Heron:
They can be. But more important, heroes are individuals who put the needs of others above their own and that's what you did. Oh, yes, Dynaroo has something for you.

Oh, wow!

Snail:
Your new jungle adventure book!

Franklin Turtle:
Thanks, Dynaroo!

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could zip zippers and button buttons. But he couldn't kick a soccer ball straight and that was a problem because Franklin wanted to be the best player on his team.

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could zip zippers and button buttons. He even had a best friend named Bear, but Franklin wanted something else.

Franklin Turtle:
I can count by twos and tie my shoes. I can zip zippers and... um! Oops.

Beaver:
Foul!

Goose:
Are you calling me a "fowl," Beaver?

Beaver:
No, not fowl like a bird, and not foul like stinky. The play is foul!

Franklin Turtle:
It means it's against the rules.

Beaver:
Yeah, silly. You can only touch the ball with your feet unless you're the goalkeeper. I thought everybody knew that.

Goose:
I knew that. But I keep forgetting.

Beaver:
That's okay, Goose. Just remember the most important thing.

Goose:
Yes, Beaver?

Beaver:
Always... give the ball to me.

Beaver:
You have to get a kitten. I'd get a kitten. A kitten is the only kind of pet to get because kittens make nice purring sounds.

Beaver, Goose, Rabbit:
Ya'ay, team!

Snail:
Please, no more cheering. At least not until the next game.

Franklin Turtle:
Oh, poor Snail.

Beaver:

Goose:

Franklin Turtle:
Beaver.

Beaver:
Har-har, maties. Shiver me timbers. Prepare to board. Timbers? Boards? Pirates sure talk about wood a lot.

Franklin Turtle:
Look, Sam. Goldie is sort of gold and silver and every color at once. Watching her swim around makes me feel kind of all nice inside. You see, Sam? Goldie is your friend, too.

Narrator:
Franklin could swim underwater and pump himself up high on a swing. Franklin also knew how to ride a bike... with training wheels, of course.

I almost did it!

Mrs. Turtle:
Try it again?

Franklin Turtle:
And again and again and again and again.

Mrs. Turtle:
Oh, I don't think you'll need that many agains to do it.

Yeah? Then maybe tomorrow I can go bike riding with my friends! Thanks, mom.

Franklin could count forwards and backwards. He could count by twos and tie his shoes. But Franklin was so messy that he could hardly ever find his things... even special things.

Mrs. Turtle:
[indicating Franklin's pretend armor] Sir Franklin? Do you have to wear that at the table?

Franklin Turtle:
Sir Bear is going to be here any minute, mom. And... [sound of knocking on the door] There he is!

Goose:
We already found the enchanted cookies.

Franklin Turtle:
You did?

Beaver:
Yeah. Tell Franklin all about it, Sir Greedy.

Bear:
There are still a few enchanted crumbs left.

Franklin Turtle:
Why do I have to be dragon bait?

Beaver:
Because we have the swords.

Goose:
And you have the carrot.

Franklin Turtle:
That's it! I'm going to find my sword once and for all.

Mr. Turtle:
As king of Turtle castle, I dub thee Sir Franklin... the neat and tidy.

Mrs. Turtle:
Long may he pick up after himself.

Franklin Turtle:
Oh, I will. I want my room to look like this all the time.

Bear:
Hey, Sir Franklin. Are you coming out?

Franklin Turtle:
Yep. As soon as I find my armor. [grabs it from a box and puts it on] And from now on, that's not going to be a problem.

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could play games with his friends and fix broken toys, too. But one day Franklin had to fix a broken friendship and he didn't know what to do.

Bear:
A sea monster! Run for your lives.

Beaver:
What are you talking about? I'm the mermaid who guards the sunken treasure.

Bear:
Ooh. Boring.

Bear:
[regarding the tree fort] I thought of this great name we could call it.

Fox:
Tell us what it is.

Bear:
The "Friendship." Get it? The friend-ship.

Beaver:
The Friendship. That's a good one.

Snail:

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He would look both ways before crossing the street and he always wore a helmet when he rode his bike. He knew a lot about safety but Franklin was about to learn something new.

Bear:
No toys?

Beaver:
Not if there was a fire at your house. Everything would be gone.

Mr. Mole:
This time I'm going to be ready if there's a fire. It won't catch me off-guard.

Franklin Turtle:
My mom and dad are ready too, Mr. Mole. Aren't you?

Mr. Turtle:
Yes we are, Franklin.

Mrs. Turtle:
And thanks to our fire drill, now you are too.

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He knew how to be a caring big brother to Harriet and a thoughtful son to mom and dad. And one day, Franklin learned to really appreciate his granny.

Franklin Turtle:
[exiting his house] Bye, Mom!

Bear:
Oy! G'day, mate!

Franklin Turtle:
A ha! It's my trusty sidekick, Koala!

Beaver:
[observing poster of Franklin] Hey, Franklin, if you like "Mouse in the House," you'll really enjoy reading "Little Piggy Tales."

Franklin Turtle:
That picture was taken a long time ago! I was little!

Bear:
Aw come on, Franklin. Beaver's just kidding around. It looks good.

Franklin Turtle:
If it was a giant picture of you reading a book for toddlers, you wouldn't think so.

Franklin Turtle:
I'm a bad grandson, Bear.

Bear:
No you're not, Franklin. Everyone does stuff without thinking sometimes, like when my grandma came to our soccer game and I was too embarrassed to let her give me a hug. I think that hurt her feelings.

Franklin Turtle:
I guess I should think more about Granny's feelings. She's really proud of that picture. I should be too.

Bear:
Are we ever glad to see you! We need help putting up this banner!

Mr. Lynx:
I'd like to help you, but I'm all done decorating. And now I've got floors to polish. I'll be seeing you boys.

Franklin Turtle:
Wait! Mr. Lynx! I know you haven't got time to do it for me, but would you have time to do for my Granny? I don't want her to be disappointed.

Franklin Turtle:
My love of books started a long time ago, with my Granny. We spent a lot of time in her big cozy chair, reading stories like "Mouse in the House." I'd like to thank you, Granny, for all the times you've sat and read with me.

Narrator:

Beaver:
Huh? Oh. You can't skate backwards, can you?

Franklin Turtle:
No, I never learned how because I was always afraid I might fall and crack my shell. Don't tell anybody, okay?

Franklin Turtle:
Hey, Rabbit, bet you've never seen a hockey move like this before. [Franklin spins, trying to execute a complex move, but falls] Whoa... oops!

[Beaver and Rabbit laugh]

Rabbit:
Nope. I've never seen a hockey move like that, before.

Beaver:
Come on, Franklin.

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could ride his bike to Granny's house and ride a bus to school. But Franklin had never been on a trip far away from home.

Franklin Turtle:
[reading an envelope from the mail] To Franklin?! Mom! Dad! There's mail for me!

Mr. Turtle:
Mom, are we going to be there soon? We've been driving for so long!

Franklin Turtle:
Dad!

Mrs. Turtle:
Isn't that Franklin's job?

Miss Lynx:
Today you're going to learn how to milk a cow.

Mr. Turtle:
Wow! Neat!

Franklin Turtle:
I have to milk a cow?

Mr. Turtle:
That's a nice old-fashioned postcard, Franklin.

Franklin Turtle:
I want to send it to Goose!

Mrs. Turtle:
What would like to say to Goose?

Franklin Turtle:
Hmm. "Dear Goose, how are you? We are at a pioneer village. There are lots of fun things to do. Did you know that the pioneers had really neat rides too? See you when I get home. Your friend, Franklin."

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could zip zippers and buckle things up. But Franklin was growing and his helmet wouldn't buckle up anymore. Could he choose a new one that was just right?

Franklin Turtle:
I like Bear's helmet and Skunk has a nice one, but I want something sort of different.

Mrs. Turtle:
Does everyone like your new helmet?

Franklin Turtle:
I don't know. But I sure do.

Mr. Turtle:
Well, as long as you like it, that's the important thing.

Franklin Turtle:

Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He had a pet goldfish named Goldie and a best friend named Bear. But Bear wanted to have a pet, too, and because they were best friends, Franklin wanted to help him.

Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could swim and ride a bike and do many things really well. But one day, Franklin learned that the thing he could do best was just be himself.

Franklin Turtle:

Mr. Turtle:
Maybe we should count them to find out.

Bear:
What happened to your bat costume?

Franklin Turtle:
I put it away.

Bear:
How come? I thought you wanted to be a bat.

Franklin Turtle:
The only "bat" thing I can do is hang upside-down and that gives me a headache.

Bear:
Why do you want to be like Bat anyway? You're already good at being Franklin.

Franklin Turtle:
I want you to come and meet some of my friends.

Bat:
Okay. Can I bring some of my friends too?

Franklin Turtle:
That sounds great. We'll play some games and stuff. See you tonight, Bat. [He starts to ride off on his bike]

Bat:
Franklin, wait! Before I go back to sleep, could you take me for a ride on your wheel thing?

Franklin Turtle:
[giggles] On my bike? Sure. Hang on.

Bat:
Wow. This is great.

Franklin Turtle:
Yeah. It is, isn't it?

Franklin Turtle:
Gee, Henry is a special hamster.

Beaver:
Very special. And I'm gonna miss my little Chubby Cheeks.

Bear:
It's okay, Beaver. I'll take good care of him.

Franklin Turtle:
Whoa. What happened to your room?

Bear:
Henry got out of his cage last night.

Franklin Turtle:
Wow. He made all this mess?

Bear:
No, I did, looking for him. And I can't find him.

Beaver:
Bear! That's Henry's cage.

Bear:
Huh? Oh yeah.

Mrs. Bear:
We'd better make a trip to the pet shop and buy your hamster his own home.

Bear:
Do you want to come too?

Beaver:
Okay. I'll go get my wagon to help carry the food and supplies.

Franklin Turtle:
So what are you going to call him, Bear?

Bear:
Henry. [Beacver shoots him an annoyed look] Ehh... Henry II. [all giggle]

Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could ride a bike and he could climb a tree. He knew he wasn't a baby anymore, but one day, Franklin was worried that his friends might think he looked like one.

Rabbit:
I have bad dreams if I don't have Panda beside me.

Franklin Turtle:
You guys! I've been trying to hide Sam all day. Why didn't you tell me?

Fox:
You... didn't... ask?

Franklin Turtle:
Sam, can you sit over here for a minute? There's something I've gotta do.

[Franklin initiates a massive pillow fight and everyone laughs.]

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He liked blueberries and he liked blackberries, too. But one day, Franklin learned that berries you share with everyone are the best kind of all.

Franklin Turtle:
Oh, Bear. There aren't even enough berries here for one pie.

Bear:
And I don't have enough for one piece of pie.

Franklin Turtle:
[to a mother bird who is picking a berry from his hand] Make sure all your babies get some.

[the bird chirps]

Skunk:
I think she's saying thanks for the berries.

Franklin Turtle, Bear:
You're welcome!

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He knew about Africa, Japan and the Rocky Mountains. He knew he should tell the teacher when he did something wrong, but one day Franklin waited too long.

Franklin Turtle:
You broke the globe, Bear!

I guess we both kinda broke it, didn't we?

Bear:
Yeah. Do you think Mr. Owl's gonna get mad at us?

Franklin Turtle:
I don't know.

Bear:
Are we going to tell Mr. Owl now?

Franklin Turtle:
In front of everybody?... Let's wait until after school.

Bear:
Then my tummy's going to feel funny all day.

Franklin Turtle:
I was thinking, uh, maybe you'd like to play something together.

Goose:
Like what?

Franklin Turtle:
I don't know. Uh, how about catch?

Goose:
I'll just drop the ball.

Franklin Turtle:
Do you want to fly a kite?

Goose:
No, I'll get it caught in a tree or something. Why don't you go back and play with those other guys. They don't drop stuff and bump into everything.

Franklin Turtle:
I want to play with you, Goose. Come on!

Franklin Turtle:
I want to tell about the globe, Bear. But don't worry. I won't say you were there.

Bear:
No. We're best friends. We should tell together.

I'm sorry you got blamed for breaking it, Goose.

Bear:

Mr. Owl:
I'm disappointed you didn't come to me sooner, but I am glad to see how much you care about Goose's feelings.

Yeah, thanks guys! Now I don't feel so clumsy anymore. [She places a block on top of a castle and raises her wings in triumph] Tada!

Mr. Owl:
That's wonderful! And you two aren't clumsy either. Little accidents happen to everyone.

[sound of blocks tumbling]

Beaver:
Oops.

Mr. Owl:
Ha ha ha! As I was saying, little accidents happen to everyone.

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could name off the months and their special days too. Franklin liked February for Valentine's Day, when he made cards for all of his friends. But what if his cards couldn't be delivered on that special day?

Franklin Turtle:
[putting the finishing touches on a Valentine card] What do you think, Snail?

Snail:
That's great, Franklin. Bear will love it.

Franklin Turtle:
Yeah. I put lots and lots of sparkles on it.

Franklin Turtle:
[regarding his Valentines] I can't wait to hand these out tomorrow.

Snail:
Yeah. My Valentines look so good, I'm giving one to me.

[Beaver presents, with a flourish, an oversized Valentine's Day mailbox adorned all over with flattering photographs of herself]

Beaver:
Move over, guys!

Franklin Turtle:
Wow! You've got a giant mailbox.

Snail:
Yeah. It's bigger than my house.

Beaver:
[sighs dreamily] I just love Valentine's Day. Don't you?

Bear:
Hey, Beaver, which one's yours?

Beaver:
[clearly annoyed, she indicates the giant mailbox] This one!

Bear:
Oh yeah.

Franklin Turtle:
My Mom forgot to pack my Valentine cards. If I don't have any to give out, my friends will want theirs back.

Mr. Owl:
Now, now, that won't happen. Your friends will understand.

Franklin Turtle:
[sniffles] How do you know?

Mr. Owl:
Well, if Bear didn't have a card for you, would you still give him one?

Franklin Turtle:
Thanks. They're my sunset clouds.

Beaver:
Okay, let's see these clouds. Oh - they are good!

Mrs. Turtle:
No one's artwork will ever be the same as yours, Franklin.

Franklin Turtle:
I learned to draw sunset clouds by copying from my favorite poster.

Rabbit:
You did?

Franklin Turtle:
Yep. I'm a copycat.

Rabbit:

Gee, thanks, Rabbit. [hears sound of bus horn honking]

Wow, this book has lots of spider facts. Did you know that tarantulas are hunting spiders, Beaver? They don't even build webs.

Beaver:
Everyone knows that, Franklin.

Franklin Turtle:
Well, I didn't, so that means my homework is done. I've learned ten things about spiders.

Beaver:
Goose will play the role of Granny and I'll be Little Red Riding Hood.

Goose:
But, but...

Franklin Turtle:
[as Beaver] Granny, you're hardly moving at all!

Goose:
[in a quavering, grandmotherly voice] That's easy for you to say, Red Riding Hood. You've got a good part. I'm in bed the whole show.

Bear:
[as the Wolf] Or in my stomach. Grr.

Beaver:
[as Granny] You're not Red Riding Hood. [as herself, dejectedly] I'm the Wolf. Everyone knows that.

Beaver:
[in a bossy voice, but jokingly] Okay, everybody! Come on, let's eat!

Bear, Goose, Franklin Turtle:
[giving her a stern look] Beaver!

Beaver:
I mean, if you want to, that is.

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could swim fast across the pond and he could draw a picture very quickly, too. But one day, Franklin felt slower than all of his friends.

Bear:
Do you wanna see who can eat the most cookies in a minute?

Franklin Turtle:
[dejectedly] You can.

Bear:
Oh yeah. We already did that.

Franklin Turtle:
I'm so slow. I don't need a stopwatch. I need a sundial.

Hmm... I can be the fastest... the fastest I've ever been. Hey, Beaver, get ready to time me.

Beaver:
Where are you going?

Franklin Turtle:

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. Sometimes, he slept without a night light. And he could even go down to the cellar all by himself. But one day, Franklin learned that being afraid was nothing to be ashamed of.

Franklin makes a move around the rosebush and passes to... Franklin! He shoots!

Bear:
He scores!

Franklin Turtle:
You're right on time, Bear. Let's go. Snail wants us to meet him at the bridge.

Hey, look! A rainbow!

Beaver:
Isn't it pretty?

Bear:

Snail:

So that's why the storm is over. Those cloud giants have gone to find the pot of gold.

Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He dreamed of sailing across the ocean and of climbing high mountains. But one day, Franklin wondered if some dreams were too big to come true.

Franklin Turtle:
And there's a dinosaur.

Mrs. Periwinkle:
I dreamed of flying ever since I was your age. Of course, all my school chums thought I was positively crackers.

Snail:
Because snails can't fly, right?

Mrs. Periwinkle:
Oh, no. They told me girls can't be pilots. Now isn't that the silliest thing you ever heard?

Snail:

Beaver:
Well, whaddya know? Snails can fly.

Franklin Turtle:
Dad, do you think maybe one day, a turtle will land on Mars?

Bear:

Mr. Turtle:
These things happen to everyone, Franklin.

Franklin Turtle:
I know. But they usually happen to me!

Whoa!

Franklin Turtle:
Aah!

Mrs. Muskrat:
Oh dear.

Franklin Turtle:
Sorry, Mrs. Muskrat.

Mrs. Muskrat:
Not a problem, Franklin. I always enjoy "running into" a friend.

Mrs. Muskrat:
You are a trooper, Franklin. And we're a team.

Franklin Turtle:
Thanks for letting friends come on the boat, too, Mrs. Muskrat.

Mrs. Muskrat:

It wasn't easy... but it sure was worth it.

Bear:

Franklin Turtle:

Franklin Turtle:
Because that's the kind of thing friends do.

Beaver:
Great! We'll come every day!

[Franklin and Bear gasp.]

Beaver:
Just kidding!

Mr. Groundhog:
The gnats have been biting like crazy today.

Franklin Turtle:
Is that a sign of a rain too?

Mr. Groundhog:
Yep. And another is me closing some windows in the house before I forget. I'll be seeing you, Franklin.

Beaver:
If it rains on a beautiful day like today, I'll eat my hat.

[the scene changes to the inside of the Beaver household, where Franklin and his friends are hunkered down as an intense thunderstorm rages outside]

Snail:
[giggles] So, Beaver? Do you want mustard and relish with your hat?

You know, I predict this will be a great day after all.

Mr. Groundhog:

Rabbit:

Bear:

Fox:

Bear:
Well, it's like my Dad always says --- "live and learn."

Franklin Turtle:
I sure learned the hard way this time.

Beaver:
Where's Franklin? The eclipse is starting. [groans as mosquitoes gather around her] And so are the bugs.

Wow! Ever neat! You can actually see the Earth's shadow on the face of the moon!

Beaver:

Twenty-eight! This is the biggest tray of chocolate chip cookies we've ever made!

Dr. Bear:
I think they're also the tastiest you've ever made.

I'm hungry. And I am a growing turtle, you know.

Badger:
Artichoke. My mom's going to help me make a souffl? out of them for the picnic.

Bear:

Badger:
You're going to like it. It's really good.

Bear:
What are artichokes?

Franklin Turtle:
I don't know, but any food with the word "choke" in it can't be good.

Skunk:
And nobody wanted to eat my pizza when they found out it had spinach in it.

Franklin Turtle:
Uh, spinach?

Skunk:
I thought you said you liked it.

Beaver:

Fox:

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He liked to ride his bike and build things, too, but when it was time to put away the things he'd built, Franklin wanted ride his bike instead.

Mrs. Turtle:
Franklin? I thought you were going on a ride with Bear.

Franklin Turtle:
I am, but I can't find the rake.

Mrs. Turtle:
[chuckles] You're going to ride the rake?

Franklin Turtle:
Huh? No, I need it to find the bicycle pump.

Mr. Turtle:
Now, isn't nice to come home and not have that fort to take down?

Franklin Turtle:
Sure is, Dad. And it's nice to have a patch on my tire so it doesn't go flat all the time. Hey, Dad, you should rake up those leaves over there before they blow all over the place.

Mr. Turtle:
Aw, can't I do it later? I want to pull weeds.

Franklin Turtle:
Dad!

[Franklin, Mr. Turtle and Mrs. Turtle all giggle]

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could swim in the pond and play find the acorn in the woods. He knew how to play fair and how to share his homemade treats. And one day, Franklin learned something new about being kind to a friend.

Beaver:
I must be getting warmer now, right?

Fox:
Uh uh. Not even close.

Beaver:
Not even close? Where did you hide it? On another planet?

Raccoon:
Yeah. We've looked for that acorn in places where Squirrel wouldn't even think of.

Fox:
Well, I can tell you one place you haven't thought of looking.

Beaver, Raccoon, Franklin Turtle, Bear:
Where?

Fox:
The place where it is! [giggles]

Franklin Turtle:
[regarding his cookies] Well, do you like them?

Mr. Turtle:
They're very... crunchy.

Mrs. Turtle:
And they're very... gingery.

Franklin Turtle:
But do they taste good?

Mr. Turtle:
Why don't you try one and see what you think?

Bear:
[regarding his homemade bird] I guess it is funny looking.

Franklin Turtle:
I don't care. I like it anyway, Bear.

Snail:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could zip zippers and button buttons. He could make his own snack and tidy his room. He could even help his Dad in the garden. But one summer, Dad gave Franklin his very own garden to plant.

Mr. Turtle:
Your garden looks great, Franklin. Looks like someone else in the family has a green thumb.

Franklin Turtle:
Ha ha! I've got two of them, dad! My garden's going to be just like yours.

Narrator:
[holding huge handfuls of cherries] Can we eat these?

Mr. Mole:
Hee hee hee. Go ahead. That's what cherries are for.

Franklin Turtle:
The birds were eating your cherries, Mr. Mole. But it's okay. I scared them away.

Mr. Mole:
Oh dear, I hope they come back.

Franklin Turtle:
You do? Why.

Mr. Mole:
I enjoy having birds in my garden. They keep me company.

Franklin Turtle:
But what about your cherries?

Mr. Mole:
Oh, I don't mind if they have some. I've got lots to go around.

Isn't it ever? It's like we can't do anything right.

Snail:
I know. It just isn't fair. Are we getting close to where we're going?

Franklin Turtle:
I don't know. Where are we going?

Mrs. Turtle:
Your father and I would miss you if you went to live in the tree fort.

Franklin Turtle:

Franklin Turtle:

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could draw a picture of mountains and make castles out of blocks. He liked making special things for special people. One day, Franklin wondered if a gift he made all by himself was special enough.

Franklin Turtle:
Gifts from a store always look so... so... special, I guess.

Bear:
Phew, that's good! Because my mom is already using her new peeler. She thinks it's great!

Franklin Turtle:
Hey. How come I'm not there too?

Mr. Turtle:
This film was taken before you were born. A long time ago.

Bear:
Are we going to play at the treehouse?

Franklin Turtle:
I think I'm too busy.

Bear:
Busy? Doing what?

Mr. Turtle:
You know, it's so nice out. What do you say we go kite-flying after dinner?

Mrs. Turtle:
Oh, I like the sound of that.

Franklin Turtle:

Sure we do. I've loved flying kites since I was... well, since I was your age.

Mrs. Turtle:
No matter how big you get, Franklin, there are some things you never outgrow.

Bear:

Bear:

Franklin:
Then let the trading begin!

Slow as a turtle, but twice as tricky.

Narrator:
Franklin and Otter loved the winter. They liked making angels in the snow. They liked to catch snowflakes on their tongues. Then they liked to make snowbears. But today was different. Today, Franklin was having a bad day.

Franklin Turtle:
This is the worstest day in the world.

Bear:
There's no such word as "worstest."

Franklin Turtle:
There is for me!

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could fix a torn page with tape and he could fix himself a snack. But one day, Franklin wanted to fix something with real tools.

Mr. Turtle:
This bolt is really rusted on.

Franklin Turtle:
Are you sure there's nothing I can do to help you, dad?

Snail:
Can you fix my dump truck, too?

Franklin Turtle:
Sure, what's wrong with it?

Snail:
It won't dump.

Franklin Turtle:
Dad, have you got time to help me re-fix a few things?

Mr. Turtle:
I think I could work that into my schedule.

Beaver:
[who is trapped inside a large easel] Good. Now could someone get this thing off me? I feel like a walking sandwich.

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He liked playing soccer and he had fun playing chess, too. But one day, Franklin was too worried to have fun playing games.

Rabbit:
Mr. Owl?

Mr.Owl:
Yes, Rabbit?

Rabbit:
How many squares can the horse move again?

Mr.Owl:
The horse is called a "knight" and it can move three squares in an "L" shape.

Mr. Wolverine:
Marmot, we can start whenever you're ready.

Marmot:
Thanks, Mr. Wolverine. I'm ready to play. How about you, Franklin?

Franklin Turtle:
Huh... I don't have the hiccups anymore, so I guess I'm ready too.

Marmot:
Then let's go have fun.

Mr turtle :
so Franklin do you still want your own paper route Franklin ( turning to see Franklin and bear asleep soundly ) laughing
