James Gordon:
I nearly crossed the line.

Captain Nathaniel Barnes:
'The line?' Let me tell you something about the line. My third tour, we were stationed in the desert. We captured three insurgents, when this sandstorm kicks up. Zero visibility. Then we start taking fire. We're getting lit up. Suddenly, I'm alone. I come across one of our prisoners. He's a kid. His hands are zip-tied. But he figures, what the hell, he's gonna use the sandstorm to try to escape. So I jump him. And I take my gun and I jam it in his mouth. I figured it was just a threat. Show him who's boss, you know? Next thing I know... I just pulled the trigger. Blew his head off. That kid woke me up every night for years. Until I made my peace with him. See, I come to find out I'm just a man. And at the right moment, a man might do anything. Any man. There is no line. There's just the law. That's what separates us from the animals. There is no line.

[Jim Gordon admits to Leslie Thompkins that he had visited Barbara Kean in the hospital]

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
[Lee reminds Gordon] This isn't jealousy. That woman is... How do I put this? She's the devil.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
[Gordon turns his head] No she is. She's the devil.

Captain Nathaniel Barnes:
[Gordon drags in a bloody, unconscious body] Who the hell is that?

James Gordon:
No idea. But he just tried to kill me.

Captain Nathaniel Barnes:
He tell you why?

[Jim Gordon aims his gun as the hitman Billy Boy, who holds Officer Parks hostage with his Piano Wire]

Billy Boy:
Try to stop me. I'll lop off her pretty little head.

James Gordon:
You know what I like about those glasses?

James Gordon:
[Gordon without a pause, shoots Billy Boy in the head as the shell casing clings to the ground] They look like bull's-eyes.

[Leslie Thompkins sits alone with Jim Gordon in her apartment]

James Gordon:
I almost crossed the line tonight.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
[Lee sarcastically replies] No kidding. How out of character.

James Gordon:
Scared me a little.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
Welcome to my world.

James Gordon:
Why the hell are you with me?

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
Beats me.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
[Lee leans closer to Jim] Just tell me the truth. Always.

James Gordon:
I promise.

[first lines]

Elderly Man:
[Tabitha Galavan walks into a bar] Good morning, help you?

Tabitha Galavan:
I was told to order a Highsmith Royale.

Elderly Man:
A bit early, don't you think?

Tabitha Galavan:
I said Highsmith Royale. No ice.

[Tabitha pays the elderly man, as he opens a hidden door in the wall]

[Tabitha Galavan sits with, The Lady]

The Lady:
So is this business, personal...?

Tabitha Galavan:
What's it matter to you?

The Lady:
Personal costs extra. There's always complications.

Tabitha Galavan:
It's business. A cop.

The Lady:
Seems personal to me. Anyhow, cops also cost extra.

Tabitha Galavan:
Fine. I want it done today. What kind of guarantee do I get?

The Lady:
I accept the job, the job gets done. Period. You see, I believe in the beauty of extreme measures. So who's the lucky fellow?

[Tabitha hands The Lady a photo of Detective Gordon]

[Edward Nygma wakes up the Penguin]

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma leans forward] Hello, sleepyhead.

Oswald Cobblepot:
[Penguin begins panting] Where am I?

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma quickly stammers] Rapid movement and elevated heart rate are counterproductive with the healing process.

Oswald Cobblepot:
[Penguin starts screaming] No! No! Don't kill me!

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma stabs a needle into Penguin's neck] Apologies in advance.

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma's voice talks distortedly to Penguin] Rest up, my feathered friend. We have a big night ahead of us.

[Edward Nygma reintroduces himself to the Penguin]

Oswald Cobblepot:
You drugged me.

Edward Nygma:
That was for your own benefit, Mr. Penguin. You have extensive injuries.

Oswald Cobblepot:
I know you.

Edward Nygma:
Ed. Nygma. We met once before at the GCPD.

Oswald Cobblepot:
You're not a cop.

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma laughs] Oh, no, no, no. No, I'm in forensics. Do you believe in fate?

Oswald Cobblepot:
[Penguin realizes he's in Nygma's pajamas] Where are my clothes?

Edward Nygma:
Oh, I threw them away. They smelled.

[Edward Nygma confesses to Penguin that he's murdered people]

Edward Nygma:
Recently, I've been going through a sort of change. 'What kind of change?' You ask.

Oswald Cobblepot:
I didn't.

Edward Nygma:
I've started murdering people.

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma takes a deep breath before chuckles] Wow! That is thrilling to say out loud.

Oswald Cobblepot:
[Nygma laughs] How many people?

Edward Nygma:
Three in total.

Edward Nygma:
[Penguin scoffs] Two of them I really didn't care for. But one was my girlfriend, Miss Kringle. She was the love of my life.

[Edward Nygma asks for Penguin's advice]

Edward Nygma:
I have no ill intentions towards you.

Oswald Cobblepot:
Then what are your intentions?

Edward Nygma:
I need advice, Mr. Penguin. These murders... changed me. And like the butterfly, I've come to realize that I cannot be a caterpillar once again. And you're one of the city's notorious killers. I brought you here, in part, because I was hoping you could guide me on this new path.

[Jim Gordon holds up with the rest of the officers at Galavan's residence, keeping the rookie cop calm, Officer Parks]

James Gordon:
Parks, take cover behind the desk. Remember your training, aim for center mass.

Officer Parks:
Right. Center mass.

James Gordon:
And don't stop firing until you're sure. And Parks?

Officer Parks:
Yes, sir?

James Gordon:
Breathe.

[Penguin gives Edward Nygma his advice]

Oswald Cobblepot:
My empire is in ruins. I'm a wanted man with no friends. And my mother... the one person I swore to protect is dead because of my weakness.

Oswald Cobblepot:
[inhales sharply] Believe me when I tell you that this path you're on leads to nothing but destruction and pain.

[Nygma grins]

[Eduardo Flamingo is introduced while eating the ear off of one of his screaming victims]

Eduardo Flamingo:
Why just smell the fear on your victim when you can taste it, right?

[the Lady calls Eduardo Flamingo to do a little job for her]

The Lady:
[the Lady hears a gun shot over the phone, she chuckles] Are you on a job?

Eduardo Flamingo:
It's not a job if you love what you do.

The Lady:
Oh, fair enough. Listen, um, I'm in a bit of a pinch over here.

Eduardo Flamingo:
I thought my membership was revoked?

The Lady:
Bygones, darling. Live and let live. So you eat people. Who am I to judge? The target is a Detective Gordon. I'll make it worth your while.

Eduardo Flamingo:
Send me the address.

[Edward Nygma gives Penguin a riddle as Penguin lays in bed missing his mother]

Edward Nygma:
I can bring tears to your eyes and resurrect the dead. I form in an instant and last a lifetime. What am I?

Oswald Cobblepot:
A memory.

[Penguin tells Edward Nygma a story about his mother]

Oswald Cobblepot:
[Penguin sniffles] Every night when I was young, my mother would sing that song to me when I was going to bed. And every time, she would tell me, 'Oswald... don't listen to the other children. You're handsome and clever. And some day, you will be a great man'. She said that every time. That's all I have left now. Memories. And they're like daggers in my heart.

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma replies with a stern face] Not forever.

[Edward Nygma tells Penguin the type of man he is]

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma walks up to Penguin] Mr. Penguin. For some men, love is a source of strength. But for you and I, it will always be our most crippling weakness.

Oswald Cobblepot:
Move aside, Ed.

Edward Nygma:
We are better off unencumbered.

Oswald Cobblepot:
What did you say?

Edward Nygma:
You said it yourself. Your mother is dead because of your weakness. But what you need to realize is that your weakness was her.

Oswald Cobblepot:
[Penguin grabs a knife and shoves it up to Nygma's neck, screaming] My mother was a saint! The only person who truly cared about me, and now she's gone! And now I have nothing left.

Edward Nygma:
A man with nothing that he loves... is a man who cannot be bargained. A man that cannot betrayed. A man who answers to no one... but himself. And that is the man that I see before me. A free man.

[Eduardo Flamingo kills Jim Gordon's back-up before calling Detective Gordon]

James Gordon:
Who is this?

Eduardo Flamingo:
This is Eduardo Flamingo.

James Gordon:
Is that name supposed to mean something to me?

Eduardo Flamingo:
Not yet, but it will. I'll be upstairs in a few minutes. I'm going to feast on your friends first. Save you for dessert. You try to run, I will find you.

James Gordon:
I won't. In fact, I'm coming down.

[Jim Gordon defeats Eduardo Flamingo, leaning over him with a gun down his mouth]

Eduardo Flamingo:
[Gordon screams into Eduardo's face, taking back the gun] Oh, baby. You disappoint me.

James Gordon:
You have the right to remain silent. I recommend you use it.

[Edward Nygma and Penguin go into Edward's closet to get the tied up Galavan lackey]

Oswald Cobblepot:
My mother always said a party is not a party without entertainment.

[Tabitha Galavan talks to Theo Galavan in prison]

Theo Galavan:
Hit men? You sent hit men after Jim Gordon, after I expressly told you to do nothing until I gave you orders? Nothing. Tell me this isn't about Barbara.

Tabitha Galavan:
He hurt her.

Theo Galavan:
[Theo scoffs] I'm disappointed you let a woman get in your head. If you're feeling upset, find yourself a nice librarian to torture. That always cheers you up. Everything is ready. The brothers' arrival is imminent. Bruce Wayne will die, and his company and this city will be mine.

Theo Galavan:
[Tabitha looks at Theo] Ours. Everything that we have worked for so long will be ours. Endanger that prize again, and though it breaks my heart, I will cut your throat.

[Tabitha stares at Theo]

[Father Creal welcomes the arrival of the monks in Galavan's order] Welcome, brothers. Welcome.

Young Guard:
Hey! Docks are closed. I need to see some I.D.

Young Guard:
Wait... No!

[the young guard grunts and gasps, laying dead as the monks walk forward into the city night]

James Gordon:
Lee.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
She... she just... she just went crazy.

Harvey Bullock:
Told him that woman was trouble.

Oswald Cobblepot:
I'm the King of Gotham!

Oswald Cobblepot:
You owe me a favour, Jim. You owe me!

James Gordon:
Dammit

Sarah Essen:
Councilman Ron Jenkins and his aide were found dead at a parking structure this morning. Still waiting on the M.E.'s report, but their wallets and jewelry were missing.

James Gordon:
A councilman. Maybe it's a political hit.

Harvey Bullock:
Nah, no one hits councilman. It's cheaper than bribery. You kill 'em and another bum with his hand out just takes his place.

Alfred Pennyworth:
Are you all right?

Bruce Wayne:
I'm fine. Why?

Alfred Pennyworth:
I heard screaming.

Bruce Wayne:

Alfred Pennyworth:

Bruce Wayne:
Not this time.

Carmine Falcone:
I never lose sleep over my enemies, Its my friends that keep me awake.

James Gordon:
You coming?

Harvey Bullock:

Butch Gilzean:
[Butch Gilzean tries to convince Theo Galavan that the Penguin purposely chopped his hand off]... And the Penguin just went crazy. I mean, like... crazier than I've ever seen him. He said it was me that set up the count house raid, said I was a traitor and a rat. Then he... he came at me with a cleaver. I tried to protect myself and he did this. Sick bastard.

Theo Galavan:
Hmm.

Tabitha Galavan:
How'd you get away?

Butch Gilzean:
There was a lot of blood. A lot. And he... he tried to take another swing and he slipped and fell and so I just ran. I ran and I ran and then... the next thing I knew, I woke up in the hospital.

Theo Galavan:
Huh.

Butch Gilzean:
Give me a shot, Mr. Galavan. Let me show you what I can do.

Theo Galavan:
Well, I'd like to help you out, Butch, but I already have several capable, two-handed thugs in my employ.

Butch Gilzean:

Captain Nathaniel Barnes:
[Barnes yells from behind his desk] We do not beat suspects, ever!

Captain Nathaniel Barnes:
[Barnes calmly walks to Jim] I get it. Luke was a good kid.

James Gordon:
We took him out of the academy, and told him he was ready. Now he's dead.

Captain Nathaniel Barnes:
You lose people in war, you know that. Make no mistake, this is war. But that doesn't give you or me the license to break the law. There's a line. I learned that the hard way.

James Gordon:
Respectfully, sir. This is Gotham. There are gray areas. I've learned that the hard way, too.

[Alfred Pennyworth teaches Bruce Wayne some boxing lessons]

Alfred Pennyworth:

Alfred Pennyworth:
[Bruce begins to hop on both feet] Well, don't... dance around like a bloody showgirl. Come on. That's better. Better. Now, big left, big left. Go on!

Alfred Pennyworth:
[Alfred grabs and holds Bruce in a headlock] I got you. Now, your enemies are gonna fight a lot dirtier than that.

Alfred Pennyworth:
[Bruce bites his teeth into Alfred's arm forcing Alfred to let him go] Ow. Ow! Bloody hell.

Alfred Pennyworth:
[Alfred hesitates with a smile] Very good, Master Bruce.

[Miss Kringle talks to Dr. Thompkins about Edward Nygma, as Nygma listens in from outside the lab]

Kristen Kringle:
[Kringle talks giddy about Edward] He is so gentle and kind. Almost too gentle. I think a man needs to have a little... a little fire, a little danger, don't you think?

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
[Thompkins' chuckles] Oh, I don't know about that.

Kristen Kringle:
And sometimes I - I feel like he's holding something back.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:

[Edward Nygma enters the lab and greets Miss Kringle and Dr. Thompkins]

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:

Kristen Kringle:

Edward Nygma:

[Edward hands Miss Kringle a coffee] Oh... Ed.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
[Miss Kringle holds her coffee mug to Miss Thompkins, seeing the cream in the shape of a heart] Aw.

[Jim Gordon asks Selina Kyle where Bridgit Pike is]

James Gordon:
Is that why you're armed? You're gonna go after the Pikes? Rescue your friend?

Selina Kyle:
No.

James Gordon:
That's a yes. Look, you're gonna get your friend and yourself killed.

Selina Kyle:
No offense, Jim. But I like my chances better than yours.

James Gordon:
Why get involved? Why risk your neck? Who is this girl to you?

Selina Kyle:
No one. Just... a girl in the neighborhood.

James Gordon:
I give you my word. I will do everything I can to keep her safe. But you have to stay out of it. Tell me where she is.

[Butch Gilzean lays his hand on the table in front of the Penguin]

Oswald Cobblepot:
Dear me. A mallet. That's, um... useful.

Butch Gilzean:
Don't even start.

[Selina Kyle talks to Bridgit Pike on the roof]

Selina Kyle:
Bridgit, I know what you did to your brothers. Not that they didn't deserve it, but... whoa.

Bridgit Pike:
I was surprised. Cale flamed up good, but it was Joe who burned the brightest.

Selina Kyle:
You don't sound like yourself.

Bridgit Pike:
I'm not myself anymore. I'm free. Just like you told me I was.

[Selina Kyle begs for Bridgit Pike to give up her fire spree]

Selina Kyle:
Rule number one: look after number one. That's you. Don't be crazy, or you'll get yourself killed.

Bridgit Pike:

[Harvey Bullock and Jim Gordon find the burned up Pike brothers]

Harvey Bullock:
[Bullock examines the Joe Pike's charcoal body on the floor] Damn. I hate how it smells like good barbecue.

Joe Pike:
[Joe Pike suddenly grabs Bullock's foot] B*tch.

James Gordon:
[Bullock screams kicking the burned up Joe Pike] Bullock, hey!

Harvey Bullock:
What? Scared the hell out of me!

James Gordon:
[Gordon examines Joe Pike's body once more] And now he's dead. Nice work, Bullock.

Harvey Bullock:

[Theo Galavan makes a toast at dinner with Bruce Wayne at the table]

Theo Galavan:

[Tabitha Galavan comments on the dinner guests at the table]

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:

James Gordon:
[Gordon walks in the door, as Selina takes her aim off Lee] Hi, Selina. Sorry about this, Lee.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
[Lee sarcastically replies] Oh, hey, no problem.

[Selina Kyle tells Jim Gordon that she won't ever talk to him again]

Selina Kyle:
I'm done talking to you. I never should have never trusted a cop.

James Gordon:
I tried to help her, it just went a different way.

Selina Kyle:
Is that what you call it when someone dies? Is that what you tell yourself?

James Gordon:
I'm sorry.

Selina Kyle:
[Selina scoffs] Whatever.

[Edward Nygma tells Miss Kringle the truth about killing, Officer Tom Dougherty]

Edward Nygma:
Um... Some time ago, he and I had an altercation. I asked him to treat you with more respect.

Kristen Kringle:

Edward Nygma:
And he said he would treat you any way he liked, and he assaulted me.

Kristen Kringle:
Oh, my God!

Edward Nygma:
So, anyhow, long story short... I killed him.

Kristen Kringle:
[Miss Kringle laughs uncontrollably] Oh, Ed, that's... you had me going for a minute, there.

Edward Nygma:
It was outside of your apartment under the elevated train. I stabbed him and he died.

Kristen Kringle:
Ed, that's not funny.

Edward Nygma:
I'm not being funny.

[Nygma gets up from his bed, and returns with a police badge]

Kristen Kringle:
[Miss Kringle reads the badge in Nygma's hand] 'T. Dougherty'.

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma smiles with a big grin asking] Do you believe me now?

Kristen Kringle:
[Miss Kringle's face fills up with fear] Oh, my God.

[Miss Kringle accuses Edward Nygma of being a murderer for killing, Officer Tom Dougherty]

Kristen Kringle:
I don't even know who you are. No, that's wrong. You are a murderer.

Edward Nygma:
He was a monster! You said so! He was abusing you.

Kristen Kringle:
I can't believe I even fell for you, you sicko.

Edward Nygma:
I'm not sick. I love you. I did it for you.

Kristen Kringle:
Everything I ever thought about you, I was right. I need to have my head examined.

Edward Nygma:

Kristen Kringle:

[Miss Kringle slaps Nygma in the face] Oh.

Edward Nygma:

[Miss Kringle slams a glass in Nygma's face] Oh!

[Miss Kringle tries opening Nygma's apartment door, screaming] Help!

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma covers Miss Kringle's mouth holding her into the wall] Listen to me. I am not the man that you think I am. I would never do anything to hurt you.

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma strangles Miss Kringle's neck with his other hand] I had to kill him because he hit you. Do you understand that? I did it for you.

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma tightens Miss Kringle's neck and mouth in his grip] I promise I will never do anything to hurt you ever again. I love you. I've loved you since the first moment that I saw you.

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma loosens his hands, lightly crying and smiling, as Miss Kringle's lifeless body slides to the floor] Kristen? Kristen? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no... no, no.

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma listens to Miss Kringle's chest, feeling her neck for a pulse] Oh, no, plea... Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Please. Please, no. No. No.

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma holds Miss Kringle in his arms, finally crying and screaming out] No!

Orderly #1:
[Bridgit Peck wakes up to find herself alive, with serious burn marks, being wheeled down a dark hallway, hearing screams, seeing other patients in the rooms] Damn, this girl looks rough.

Orderly #2:
They tell people she dead. But that's a lie. I heard the suit she was wearing melted to her. They say she's fireproof.

Orderly #1:
Come on.

Orderly #2:
Yeah, man - Fireproof. That's why they sent her down here, with the rest of the monsters. For testing.

[Bridgit is wheeled into a room as the orderlies leave her alone and the door closes, when the camera looks to the wall showing the words - 'Indian Hill:

[Jim Gordon reads the profiles of the escaped inmates to the rest of the police precinct while watching a slideshow of each criminal]

James Gordon:
[a projector begins to show the arrest photos] These are our targets: Jerome Valeska, 18 years old. Matricide.

James Gordon:
[the projection clicks over] Arnold Dobkins, schizophrenic. Poisoner, rapist.

James Gordon:
[the projection clicks over] Aaron Helzinger. Killed his entire family with his bare hands.

James Gordon:

James Gordon:
[the projection clicks over, as Gordon hesitates] Barbara Kean. Killed her parents. We're gonna work this in groups of four. I'll hand out assignments throughout the day. Alvarez is my coordinating officer. Any questions?

[Jerome Valeski and Robert Greenwood have a disagreement on who should be the boss]

[Jerome Valeska begins to call out a cheer for the cheerleaders]

[Jerome fires a pistol inside of the bus]

Jerome Valeska:

[the cheerleaders whimper an O]

Jerome Valeska:

Alfred Pennyworth:

[Penguin and his crew arrive at the location Butch says Penguin's mother is being held captive] You sure this is it?

Once my mother is safe, we go after Galavan and his sister. They're gonna pay for what they've done.

Oswald Cobblepot:
[Penguin screams entering into the building] Mother! Mother.

[Penguin talks to his mother, Gertrude Kapelput, for the last time]

Oswald Cobblepot:
[Tabitha Galavan releases Gertrude from her cage, as Penguin and Gertrude hug each other] I told you everything would be okay. Didn't I? And it will be.

Oswald Cobblepot:
[Gertrude suddenly gets quiet as Penguin see's that Tabitha stabbed her in her back] No! No!

Gertrude Kapelput:
[Penguin cries as he holds onto his mother] Oswald? What is wrong? You look so sad.

Oswald Cobblepot:
[Penguin lowers his mother to the floor, not letting her go] Nothing is wrong, mother. Nothing at all. We're together now. That's all that matters. That's all that ever mattered, right?

Gertrude Kapelput:

Oswald Cobblepot:

[Theo c*cks a pistol, aiming it down as he asks Penguin] Any last words?

Oswald Cobblepot:
[Penguin quietly growls] Yes. I'm going to kill you.

[Penguin slices Theo Galavan's neck with a knife before running to jump out of the building window]

[Confident Nygma talks to Nervous Nygma over the death of Miss Kringle]

Edward Nygma:
[nervous Nygma] What are you doing here? I banished you for good.

Edward Nygma:
[confident Nygma] Almost. Love of a good woman and all of that. Though, we both know how that turned out. Yikes.

Edward Nygma:
[nervous Nygma] That was an accident. I'm not that man. I'm gonna make this right.

[Edward Nygma tries to solve the riddle of where Miss Kringle's body is as the confident dark Nygma taunts him]

[Edward Nygma talks to his other personality in the morgue while looking down at Miss Kringle's dead body]

Edward Nygma:

[confident dark Nygma] When Dr. Thompkins walked in the room, how did it feel?

Edward Nygma:
[nervous Nygma] I was terrified. She could've discovered the body.

Edward Nygma:

[Theo Galavan talks to Detective Gordon about giving him an endorsement for mayor]

Theo Galavan:

[Jerome continues to cackle as he turns back to the stage of the Gala in a calm, stern face, end laughter] I think that went well.

[Jerome Valeska calls out for Bruce Wayne in the audience of hostages]

Jerome Valeska:
Well, I think it's time for tonight's first official victim, you all know and love, poor rich boy, parents murdered in an alley, and my favorite volunteer. Where is... Bruce Wayne?

Jerome Valeska:
[the audience remains silent as Jerome calmly says] You know I'm an orphan, too, Bruce. I killed my parents though.

[Theo Galavan stabs and holds the knife in Jerome Valeska's neck]

Theo Galavan:
[Theo drops Jerome to his back holding the knife in] I know, I know. This is not what we rehearsed. I'm so sorry, Jerome. You have real talent. But now, you see, the plot thickens. Enter the hero.

Jerome Valeska:
[Jerome strains and chuckles trying to speak] You said... I was... gonna be...

[there's a silence as Jerome dies with a bloody smile on his face]

[Oswald Cobblepot watches Jerome Valeska on the television]

Oswald Cobblepot:
See, someone like that has no interest in building things. He's not part of a tradition. Hmm? It's chaos for chaos' sake.

Oswald Cobblepot:
[Oswald takes a drink hearing Jerome laugh in the television] Perhaps I could use a new laugh.

[Officer Bullock threatens Oswald Cobblepot]

[Lee smiles before passionately kissing Gordon on the lips]

[Theo Galavan and Barbara watch the television after the Gala attack]

Theo Galavan:

[Gordon pours himself a drink] Katherine Parks was 23. On the force a year. And today we put her in the ground because when I had the chance, I didn't do the only sensible thing.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:

James Gordon:
An assassin kills four cops... dares me to pull the trigger, and I don't. Explain that to me.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
That man was your prisoner; you didn't have a choice.

James Gordon:
I had a choice.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
Yes, to upload the law or to become a murderer. You made the right one.

James Gordon:
You think Katherine Parks feels the same way? What about her family?

[the thief awakes in the hands of the secret order]

Thief:
Where am I? Who are you?

Father Creel:
The day of reckoning is at hand. And the blood of the nine shall wash away the sins.

Thief:
[the order forces the thief forward] Please!

Father Creel:
And Gotham will be cleansed!

[the thief gets his throat slit open, gasping]

[Jim Gordon reports to Captain Barnes about the six reported monks in Gotham]

James Gordon:
They have to be part of this same order of St. Dumas. Bullock's contacts say they're penitents

Captain Nathaniel Barnes:
Yeah, I forgot my dictionary in my purse.

James Gordon:
They believed in purification through pain. Blood.

[Bruce Wayne is stopped by a van outside of his school, the back door of the van opens revealing Silver St. Cloud tied up with tape over her mouth]

Tom the Knife:
[Tom the Knife lowers the passenger window of the van] Don't scream. Don't run. Just get in. Or we kill the girl.

Tom the Knife:
[Bruce hesitates before getting in the back of the van, the door closes] Go.

[Edward Nygma receives a phone call from Penguin while he's working in the lab]

Edward Nygma:
Again? Did you try jiggling the handle? Well, what did you put down it?

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma see's Dr. Thompkins coming before he hangs up the phone] Dr. Thompkins, can I help you?

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
Hi, Ed. This is the autopsy on the dead monk. Jim wants you to run toxicology.

Edward Nygma:
Fascinating. The need to inflict that kind of pain on oneself. Is there anything else?

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
No. Yes. Was that Kristen you were just talking to?

Edward Nygma:
What?

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
Oh, sorry. It sounded like you were talking to somebody in your apartment, and who besides...

Edward Nygma:
That was my plumber.

[Tom the Knife begins questioning Bruce Wayne]

Bruce Wayne:
You have one chance. You let us go...

Tom the Knife:
[Tom the Knife smacks Bruce across the face] You talk... when i tell you to. Understand? Now... so you know, we are outside of the city, and there is absolutely no one to hear you scream, except me.

Bruce Wayne:
You work for the people inside Wayne Enterprises. Whoever's paying you...

Tom the Knife:
[Tom the Knife smacks Bruce across the face] Again... you talk when I tell you to.

[Jim Gordon and Harvey Bullock travel through the sewer system to try and find the Order]

Harvey Bullock:
Just when you think Gotham's shown her last jewel, she reveals herself like a flower.

James Gordon:
You're mixing metaphors.

Harvey Bullock:
I'm in a freakin' sewer.

[Tom the Knife begins questioning the fake Silver St. Cloud]

Tom the Knife:
Well, if nothing else, today has given me a newfound respect for boy billionaires. Kid's tougher than he looks. Didn't know a damn thing.

Silver St. Cloud:
Did you kill him?

Tom the Knife:
No, not yet. But the rest is kind of up to you.

[Tom the Knife tells Silver St. Cloud he doesn't like her]

Tom the Knife:
You know what... I don't like you. The Wayne kid - He's got some sap in him. But you... You know when you meet someone, and you just don't click. That's the way I feel about you. That's why this is gonna be so much easier.

Silver St. Cloud:
What are you doing?

Tom the Knife:
I'm gonna make sure that you are telling the truth.

[Tom the Knife begins questioning the real Silver St. Cloud]

Silver St. Cloud:
Touch me, and my uncle will have you gutted. Every person you love will die screaming. I've had enough of this. Let me go. Now!

Tom the Knife:
Well, hello! Nice to meet ya! I knew there was someone hiding in there.

Silver St. Cloud:
Are you deaf as well as ugly? I said... Let me go!

Tom the Knife:
I heard you, princess.

Silver St. Cloud:
[Tom the Knife grabs Silver's hand to cut her finger off] What are you doing? Stop! Malone! It's Malone!

Tom the Knife:
What's that?

Silver St. Cloud:
Malone. That's the name. The man who killed Bruce Wayne's parents.

[Bruce Wayne says goodbye to Silver St. Cloud]

Silver St. Cloud:
You're right about my uncle. He's everything everyone says. Worse. When he finds out what I told you, he'll kill me.

Bruce Wayne:
You pretended to be my friend. Goodbye, Silver.

Silver St. Cloud:
Bruce. The things you told me today. I believed you.

Bruce Wayne:
Yes. That was the point.

Silver St. Cloud:
Bruce, you can't do this. It isn't you.

Bruce Wayne:
That's what you think. But you're wrong.

[Alfred Pennyworth runs into Tabitha Galavan while searching for Bruce Wayne]

Tabitha Galavan:
Now, I suggest you leave while you still can.

Alfred Pennyworth:
I see you're a bit of a player, are you? As it were then, Tabby. Big bad Galavan barks the orders, and you scamper around, bringing home dead rabbits, so you might get a little pat on the head? I wonder what he'd do if I just disappeared you.

Tabitha Galavan:
Honestly, I don't think he'd care.

Alfred Pennyworth:
If I learn anything has happened to that little boy, we'll find out won't we.

[Tabitha throws her whip to Alfred's back, as he catches it and pulls her forward to the ground]

[Theo Galavan gives a final statement at the courthouse after his official release]

Theo Galavan:
I'd just like to state that, I harbor no ill will toward Detective Gordon and the GCPD. They did their jobs. They're still my heroes. What do you say, Detective Gordon? Can we move forward together to fix this, broken, beautiful city?

[Gordon takes a swing to Theo Galavan in front of all of the press]

James Gordon:
[Gordon screams] You son of a b*tch! You're a son of a b*tch! I'm gonna get you! I'm gonna get you!

[Bruce Wayne thanks Selina Kyle for her help with exposing Silver St. Cloud]

Bruce Wayne:
Thank you, Selina. I couldn't have done this without you.

Selina Kyle:
I was just glad to see the two-faced b*tch get served.

[Selina Kyle gets curious as to what Bruce Wayne whispered to Silver St. Cloud]

Selina Kyle:
So, when you whispered to her before she went to her uncle, what did you say?

Bruce Wayne:
You want to know what I said.

Selina Kyle:
Hey, if you don't want to tell me, then I can leave.

Bruce Wayne:
I told her I never met anyone like her. I told her I trusted her with my life. And then... I felt tied to her in a way that I... couldn't explain or couldn't change. Ever. The best liars always tell the truth.

Selina Kyle:

Bruce Wayne:

Selina Kyle:

[Theo Galavan talks to the tied up Detective Gordon]

Theo Galavan:
My, my. What a difference a day brings. Here, you're the prisoner and I'm free. Fortune's wheel. Turn, turn. These cops? Good men who can tell which way the wind is blowing. Now, we have a very small window. I have places to be, you have to die, but I know you must have questions, so...

James Gordon:
The monks. They... work for you?

Theo Galavan:
For centuries, the order of Dumas has protected my family. They have been a light in a dark world. Shall I tell you a secret? Theo Galavan is a mask. My name is Dumas, and my family built this city out of nothing. But we were betrayed, driven out, erased.

James Gordon:
So, that's all this is about? Revenge.

Theo Galavan:
No. This is about atonement. The ground that Gotham is built on is poisoned by the wrongs done to my forefathers. I will change that.

James Gordon:
By killing nine random people? You're insane.

Theo Galavan:
[Galavan laughs] I can see why you'd think so. Ritual blood sacrifices, bunch of guys in robes, chanting prophesies. It's a bit, too... But belief itself - That's what matters, Detective. Belief gives strength, purpose.

[Theo Galavan has his men untie Detective Gordon for a little fist fight]

Theo Galavan:
[Galavan laughs while challenging Detective Gordon] Ah, what the hell. I got a few minutes. Cut him loose.

Theo Galavan:
[Gordon looks at Galavan standing across from him] All right, Jim, give it your best shot. Save Gotham.

[Theo Galavan and Jim Gordon get in a fighting match that Detective Gordon loses to]

Theo Galavan:
[Galavan tells his thugs as he walks off] Kill him. Don't make it quick.

[the Penguin's men save Detective Gordon as the Penguin steps over the fallen Detective]

Oswald Cobblepot:
Hello, Jim. Lucky for you, Gabe had people following Galavan. Now... where is he? Where's Galavan?

Oswald Cobblepot:
[Penguin screams] Tell me! Where is Galavan!

[the Penguin begins punching the passed out Gordon in the face to answer him]

Theo Galavan:
[Theo Galavan startles Bruce Wayne in the Wayne Manor, standing next to the lit fireplace] You've shown mettle and ingenuity, my boy. But that's all done with.

Bruce Wayne:
What do you want?

Theo Galavan:
[Galavan pulls out the Dumas knife] Why, your life, of course.

[first lines]

James Gordon:
[in a dream, Barbara Kean walks down the aisle to Jim Gordon] Ready for the practice run?

Barbara Kean:
[Barbara arrives at the alter smiling] I'm ready to skip this and get married

James Gordon:
Me, too.

Father Callahan:
Let us rehearse the vows. Barbara Kean...

Barbara Kean:
Mmm...

Father Callahan:
Do you take James Gordon to be your unlawfully wedded husband to have to hold...

Barbara Kean:
I'm sorry, Father. You said 'unlawfully wedded'.

James Gordon:
[Gordon whispers] Barbara, just answer him, for God's sake.

Oswald Cobblepot:
[Barbara looks back to Father Callahan, and sees a Father Cobblepot who grins] I'm waiting.

[Jim Gordon speaks to Barbara Kean in the interrogation room]

James Gordon:
They said you'd only talk to me. I'm listening.

Barbara Kean:
[Barbara quietly whispers] Yes. Here it is.

Barbara Kean:
[Barbara quickly states] Is there any chance I could get a latte or something?

James Gordon:
This is not a game, Barbara.

Barbara Kean:
Oh. Of course it is. It's a game you've been losing. Big-time.

James Gordon:
It is not a game.

Barbara Kean:
[Barbara chuckles] It must be killing you. All that righteous indignation with no place to go.

[Jim Gordon comforts Barbara Kean in the interrogation room]

Barbara Kean:
Don't act all calm and businesslike. Rough me up a little, if you want.

James Gordon:
I don't want to do that. I don't want to hurt you. I want to help you.

Barbara Kean:
I know... you want to hurt me, just a little. I've been a very bad girl.

James Gordon:
No. You're a good woman. You're just sick, is all.

[Barbara cries in her hands before looking up a bit shocked, as Gordon sits on the table beside her, kissing her on the lips]

Barbara Kean:
[Barbara laughs with tears in her eyes] I knew it. I knew you still had feelings for me.

James Gordon:
Of course I have feelings.

[Captain Barnes talks to Harvey Bullock to keep an eye on Jim Gordon]

Captain Nathaniel Barnes:
He's too wrapped up in this thing emotionally. I need to know that one of you isn't gonna get sucked into all of these mind games that Ms. Kean is gonna be pulling out there.

Harvey Bullock:
Not to worry - No one's ever accused me of getting sucked into mind games.

Captain Nathaniel Barnes:
Just follow my orders, understood?

Harvey Bullock:
[Bullock sarcastically replies] Understood, Captain. Glad we had this chance to talk.

[Doctor Thompkins talks to Jim Gordon about Barbara Kean still having a hold over him]

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
This is you, Jim. This is all you. She sucked you right back in, didn't she? Because she still has a hold on you. Her sickness and yours feed off each other.

James Gordon:
What do you mean my sickness? I'm not sick.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
You see an abyss, and you run toward it. That's not healthy.

James Gordon:
I'm just doing my job.

Barbara Kean:
[Barbara walks out in chains] Hey, Lee. You don't mind if I borrow him for a little while, do you?

[Barbara continues to walk, chuckling]

[Theo Galavan asks Bruce Wayne what his one dream would be]

Theo Galavan:
If you could have one dream come true, what would that be?

Bruce Wayne:
I would find the man who killed my parents.

Theo Galavan:
What would you do if you found him?

Bruce Wayne:
I would kill him.

Theo Galavan:
What a young tiger you are. My dream? I would save this city. I would rid Gotham of corruption, crime and poverty.

Bruce Wayne:
Sounds good. How would you do that?

Theo Galavan:
Oh, I have plans, schemes, ideas aplenty. But... I need help. I need your help.

Bruce Wayne:
Of course.

Theo Galavan:
And perhaps in return, I could help you with your dream.

[Jim Gordon and Harvey Bullock assist in following Barbara Kean's plan]

James Gordon:

Harvey Bullock:

[Edward Nygma prepares to bury Miss Kringle out in the woods]

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma pours two glasses of wine, with her already in the hole] Well, I'm afraid this is as proper a burial as circumstances allow. But I thought we could have one last meal together.

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma takes off his hat] I was a broken man, Miss Kringle. Two halves at war with each other. But thanks to you, I am whole. I will not forget you. I take you by night, by day take you back. None suffer to have me, but do from my lack. What am I?

Hunter:
[Nygma is randomly spooked by a hunter in the woods standing behind him] That some sort of riddle?

[Edward Nygma talks to the hunter who catches him burying Miss Kringle]

Edward Nygma:
You know, you really shouldn't sneak up on people; that's not polite.

Hunter:
Not usually any people out here.

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma reaches down to the ground] Can I interest you in a tea sandwich?

Hunter:
A what?

Hunter:
[the hunter looks down at the case buried in the hole] What the heck is in there?

Hunter:
[Nygma hits the hunter over the head with his shovel, as the hunter falls in the hole] Aah!

Edward Nygma:
Great. Not I've got to improvise. Don't go anywhere.

[Alfred Pennyworth finds Bruce Wayne in the secret room behind his desk]

Alfred Pennyworth:
Ah, there you are, Master Bruce. Been looking all over the gaff for you.

Alfred Pennyworth:
[Bruce sits in silence] Bit dreary down here, isn't it? Fancy something to eat?

Alfred Pennyworth:
[Bruce remains silent] What's up?

[Alfred Pennyworth tells Bruce Wayne that Wayne Enterprise is Bruce Wayne's legacy]

Alfred Pennyworth:
Wayne Enterprises is not Thomas and Martha Wayne's legacy. That legacy is standing right here. With me.

Bruce Wayne:
[Bruce begins crying in front of Alfred] Alfred, am I wrong if I just want it all to be over. I just want... I want it to be over.

Alfred Pennyworth:

Alfred Pennyworth:
[Alfred hugs Bruce Wayne] You're not wrong.

[Barbara Kean marches down the aisle of a Cathedral to the tied up Jim Gordon]

Barbara Kean:
[Barbara hums the song, 'Bridal March' to herself, holding a double-barreled pistol in her arms] I know.

Barbara Kean:
[Barbara faces Jim in the wedding dress, which she bought for her marriage to Gordon when he previously asked to marry her] Do you believe it still fits?

[Barbara Kean talks to the tied up Jim Gordon in her wedding dress, in the Cathedral]

Barbara Kean:
Well, this is my wedding dress. The tailor still had it in storage. I mean, can you believe the luck? Or fate.

Barbara Kean:
[Barbara aims her weapon at the priest] That's father Callahan. You remember him, of course.

Barbara Kean:

[Gordon escapes from the ropes of the tied up chair]

[Barbara Kean dangles outside of the top Cathedral window]

[Gordon holds onto Barbara] Hold on. Hold on.

Barbara Kean:
I'm sorry, baby. I've been kind of a bad date, huh?

Barbara Kean:
[Barbara looks to Gordon] I love you, baby.

James Gordon:
[Barbara lets go of Gordon, as he screams] No!

[Edward Nygma follows the blood trail to a lonely trailer out in the woods, as he's pushed to the ground while spying into the door]

Edward Nygma:
[Nygma retrieves his glasses on the ground and sees an awkward, stumbling Penguin] Oh, my. Mr. Penguin?

Oswald Cobblepot:
[Penguin raises a bat before falling to his knees, bleeding out from the gun wound on his shoulder] Help me, please.

Selina Kyle:
[pointing at dresses] What are those for?

Barbara Kean:
The Wayne Charity Ball. It's boring, but it's good for the gallery's business.

Selina Kyle:
Well, I'll probably see you there.

Delivery Man:
[knocking]

[answering door] I'm going with Bruce Wayne

[Edward Nygma whispers a riddle into Leslie Thompkins' ear on the location of where Jim Gordon is]

Edward Nygma:

[Silver St. Cloud asks Bruce Wayne what his favorite animal is while alone with him in the cell]

Silver St. Cloud:
What's your favorite animal?

Bruce Wayne:
Owls.

Silver St. Cloud:
Owls. Owls, okay. Owls are cool. Did you ever swim with a dolphin?

Bruce Wayne:
No.

Silver St. Cloud:
I did once. Oh, my gosh. It was magical. It was... like we were friends, like... they have this power. They can, like, read your mind.

Bruce Wayne:

They have a form of sonar, that can see inside you to detect tumors, that sort of thing. But they can't read minds.

[Leslie Thompkins tries to convince Jim Gordon to not team-up with the Penguin]

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
Have I got you all wrong? Are you just crazy?

James Gordon:

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
You're on the run from the law. You want to attack the mayor with the help of a depraved sociopath. That's not crazy?

Oswald Cobblepot:

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
[Lee looks over to Penguin before looking back to Jim] Shh! Don't speak. Jim, don't do this.

[Silver St. Cloud asks Bruce Wayne what his favorite memory is while alone with him in the cell]

Bruce Wayne:
[Bruce quietly whispers] We went camping once, in a forest. My father and I climbed an oak tree and ate oranges. We could hear my mom singing to herself as she built a fire. That was a good day.

Silver St. Cloud:
[Silver begins to cry] Damn it... Damn it. I can't do this. I can't let you die.

[Lucius Fox reports to Captain Barnes that both Bruce Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth have been kidnapped]

Captain Nathaniel Barnes:
Was there any evidence of an abduction?

Lucius Fox:
There was a lamp stand knocked over and there was a window opened.

Captain Nathaniel Barnes:
Uh-huh.

[the men discuss on needing Jim Gordon at their side to take down Theo Galavan]

Harvey Bullock:
Yeah, where is Jim Gordon? It's a long story, but nobody knows.

Harvey Bullock:
[Nygma chuckles from behind the men] Something funny, Ed?

Alfred Pennyworth:
Do you know where Gordon is?

Harvey Bullock:
Do you?

Alfred Pennyworth:
Start speaking, Windows.

Edward Nygma:
Um, uh... a diamond plate, a glowing grate, a place you never leave. Where am I?

Alfred Pennyworth:

Lucius Fox:

Edward Nygma:

Edward Nygma:
[the men remain quiet] Who are you?

[Penguin says goodbye to Miss Thompkins and Jim Gordon]

Oswald Cobblepot:

James Gordon:

Oswald Cobblepot:
Goodbye, Miss Thompkins. Please don't think too badly of me. We are who we are.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
[Penguin shakes Lee's hand] That's true. Goodbye, Mr. Cobblepot.

[Silver St. Cloud tells Bruce Wayne she loves him while alone with him in the cell]

Silver St. Cloud:
You're so calm. It's like you're not scared.

Bruce Wayne:
I guess I'm not. It's weird.

Silver St. Cloud:
You... are weird. But I love you.

Bruce Wayne:
Do you?

Silver St. Cloud:
I do.

[Silver St. Cloud asks Bruce Wayne if he loves her while alone with him in the cell]

Silver St. Cloud:
Do you love me?

Bruce Wayne:

Silver St. Cloud:
[Silver tears up] No?

Bruce Wayne:
Silver, I don't know why you're doing it, but I know you're playing me. I know that whole escape was a ghoulish charade.

Silver St. Cloud:
That's a horrible lie.

Bruce Wayne:
I'm only telling you this because, when I'm dead, you may feel bad, and I don't want you to think you tricked me. Silver, I don't love you. I pity you.

Bruce Wayne:
[Silver has tears roll down her eyes] Why do you do this? What's the point?

Silver St. Cloud:
Uncle Theo made me. He said if I can't make you love me again, if you don't kiss me goodbye, then I'm not good enough for the family. He's going to kick me out. Or kill me. Same thing really.

Bruce Wayne:
I see.

Silver St. Cloud:
God, I'm such a loser. An evil, pathetic loser.

Bruce Wayne:
You're not. You're young and scared and under the control of bad people. You can change. There's hope.

Silver St. Cloud:
You can't even imagine the things I've done. There's no hope. There's no going back to normal life. My family is all I have. Now I've lost them, too.

[Selina Kyle wants to join Jim Gordon and the penthouse raid as Alfred Pennyworth calls her out]

Alfred Pennyworth:
How do we know that you're not working with Galavan now?

Selina Kyle:
How do I know you're not a Martian in a rubber suit?

[Lucius Fox questions Jim Gordon on having a backup plan to the penthouse raid]

Lucius Fox:
People, surely we should have a backup strategy, given the strong possibilities of failure.

Oswald Cobblepot:
[Penguin cheerfully responds] Au Contraire, Mr. Fox. Failure is not an option!

James Gordon:
What he said.

Lucius Fox:
As you like.

[Silver St. Cloud talks to Bruce Wayne about not being scared while alone with him in the cell]

Silver St. Cloud:
Stop acting like you're not scared. I know you are.

Bruce Wayne:
Sure. Maybe a little but... mostly, I feel very alive. Happy, even. I'm going to see my parents.

Silver St. Cloud:
[footsteps approach the cell] Hold that thought.

[Jim Gordon and the group begin the raid inside of Theo Galavan's penthouse]

Harvey Bullock:
[Harvery Bullock looks up the floors of stairs] Oh, for Pete's sake!

[Jim Gordon holds a gun on Penguin, who tries to remind Gordon that Theo Galavan must die]

Oswald Cobblepot:
Look forward now, Jim. What now? I will kill you to get to him if I have to. Forget that this man sicked Barbara Kean on you. Forget that he nearly killed the mother of your child. Forget revenge. Think of the greater good. Think of Gotham. He has the courts in his pocket and billions of dollars at his command. Are you 100% sure that he won't beat this and walk free again? Are you sure, Jim?

Officer On Radio:
[the radio of Captain Barnes' goes off on the ground] Captain, Bravo Team in the vicinity of the penthouse.

Oswald Cobblepot:
But think fast.

[Jim Gordon and Penguin open the trunk of a car down by the river]

Theo Galavan:
You're a man of conscience, Jim. You'll regret this.

James Gordon:
I have many regrets. This won't be top of the list.

[Theo Galavan kneels to his knees beside the river, looking to both Jim Gordon and the Penguin]

Theo Galavan:
Now, uh... Here we are. Shame. It's gonna be a beautiful morning. Goodbye, Jim Gordon.

[Galavan looks at Penguin standing over him]

Oswald Cobblepot:
This is for my mother.

[Penguin holds up a bat and repeatedly swings it at Galavan]

Theo Galavan:
[Galavan looks to Gordon] Kill me, please. Please.

James Gordon:
Enough! That's enough.

[Gordon pulls away the laughing Penguin, pulling out his pistol, shooting it at Galavan's chest]

[Jim Gordon sits beside Leslie Thompkins across from a running fountain]

James Gordon:
It's over.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
Is it?

James Gordon:
Yes.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:
Good.

James Gordon:
[Jim looks at Lee in the eyes] Will you marry me?

[last lines]

Orderly:
[an Orderly at Indian Hill wheels in a dead body from the morgue delivery truck] Here you go, Miss Peabody. Fresh meat from the city morgue.

Ethel Peabody:
Show some respect. Professor Strange has high hopes for this one.

Orderly:
Huh.

Ethel Peabody:
[the Orderly and Miss Peabody see the body of Theo Galavan lay dead, with an umbrella shoved down his throat] That's unusual.
