Nathan Scott:
[at the hospital] Dad, why does this have to be so difficult? You're my father, so I should love you, but I've spent so much of my life hating you.

Dan Scott:
[nods] I was a terrible father. I know this.

Nathan Scott:
You know, I can justify a lot of screwed-up things that you've done. You bullied me because you wanted to make me tough. You tried to ruin my marriage because you wanted me to have a career. You even burned down your diner just because you wanted to see me again. But I can't understand how you could murder your own brother. And I'm worried. I'm worried that when you're gone, that's all I'll remember. And I'll still hate you for it.

Dan Scott:
You should hate me for it.

Nathan Scott:
So why did you do it?

Dan Scott:
[shrugs] I was always jealous of Keith. Even when we were kids. I was athletic, popular, all the things that he wasn't. But still I was jealous of him. And people were drawn to Keith, and I hated him for it.

Nathan Scott:
So you shot him because people liked him more?

Dan Scott:
The day I shot Keith, I was in a dark place. I was convinced that he tried to kill me. I'd lost you, I divorced your mom, my life was spiraling downwards, and meanwhile Keith was building a new life with my high school sweetheart and the child I abandoned, and every time I looked at him, I felt like I was punched in the gut.

Nathan Scott:
So what happened in that hallway?

Dan Scott:
Keith wanted to go into the school to save that kid. So I let him go... hoping he'd get shot. Let him be the hero, as long as he was a dead hero. And then I thought 'why should he be the hero when it could be me?' So I followed him in. Jimmy was crying... and Keith was telling him 'it gets better... that pain in your heart that tells you there's no way out, it's wrong... it gets better'. And I felt like he was talking to me. And in that moment, maybe the most heroic, kindest moment of my big brother's life, I hated him. I hated him more than anyone or anything, because nothing had gotten better. That pain was still in my heart. That voice in my head saying there was no way out was right! And he was standing there lying to me! And after Jimmy died, I picked up the gun, and I aimed it at Keith, and he looked at me. And all I could think of was how everything that had gone wrong was his fault. And it wasn't gonna get better until he was gone. Just pull the trigger and it all ends! [voice breaks] So I pulled that trigger! And it didn't end! It got worse. I'm so sorry. [weeps] I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry.

Nathan Scott:
[Dan has just flatlined] Dad, Dad? [shakes him] Hey, hey! Dad, come on!

Dan Scott:
[Nathan rushes to get help, Keith watches him leave... Dan's eyes open] Keith.

Keith Scott:
[smiles] Hi, Danny.

Dan Scott:
[Dan gets up out of bed and follows Keith out of the hospital room which transitions into the hallway where Keith was murdered] What are we doing back here, Keith?

Keith Scott:
I don't think either one of us ever really left, Danny.

Dan Scott:
Keith, if I could take it back...

Keith Scott:
Well, you can't. I think we both know that.

Dan Scott:
I'm so sorry. For that day and every day before it.

Keith Scott:
[nods] I know you are, Danny. And I forgive you.

Dan Scott:
I took you away from everyone and everything you ever cared about. How can you just forgive me?

Keith Scott:
Well, you're dead, Danny. If I can't forgive you now, when can I? [chuckles softly] Look Danny, you've done some horrific things. You can't change that, and you can't take it back. Since then, you've done everything you could to make up for it. You've become a better man.

Dan Scott:
[scoffs] I lied about my heart transplant. My book and show were a fraud. I set my own diner on fire.

Keith Scott:
[smiles] Well, I didn't say you were perfect. But nobody is. But you learned what's important. You learned to put friends and family first. And you've become the selfless, kind person that I always wanted for a brother.

Dan Scott:
Like the kind of brother you were. For so many years, I was so jealous of you. I should've been trying to be more like you. I should have been proud of you. I am proud of you. I love you, Keith.

Keith Scott:
[puts his hand on Dan's shoulder] I love you too, Danny. [beckons towards Dan's room] Come on.

Keith Scott:
[they gaze at their grieving family standing over Dan's body] I told you the voice was wrong... it gets better. [pause] Come on, little brother... take a walk with me.

Dan Scott:
[they walk towards a mysterious light at the end of the hall] I know where you're going... but what about me?

Keith Scott:
Don't worry little brother, you're my 'plus one'. [Keith puts his hand on Dan's shoulder as they vanish into the light]

Nathan Scott:
Stepping up. It's a simple concept. It basically means to rise above yourself; to do a little more, to show you something special. Something like this. Lucas is gone, but that doesn't mean the season is over. As a matter of fact, I say it's just beginning. You might want to stay out of my way for a while. Life's funny sometimes; can push pretty hard like when you fall in love with someone but they forget to love you back, like when your best friend and your boyfriend leave you alone, like when you pull the trigger or light the flame and you can't take it back. Like I said, in sports they call this 'stepping up'. In life, I call it 'pushing back'.

Nathan Scott:
You know it's been said that we just don't recognize the significant moments of our lives while they're happening. We grow complacent with ideas, or things or people and we take them for granted and it's usually not until that thing is about to be taken away from you that you've realized how wrong you've been that you realized how much you need it, how much you love it. God, I love this game.

Nathan Scott:
You ever heard the expression 'The best things in live are free.' Well that expression is true.' Every once in a while, people step up they rise above themselves sometimes they surprise you and sometimes they fall short. Life is funny sometimes. It can push pretty hard but if you look close enough, you can find hope in the words of children, in the bars of the song and in the eyes of someone you love. And if you're lucky, if you're the luckiest person on this entire planet, the person you love decides to love you back.

Haley James Scott:
Nathan, this is really weird. I can just call Peyton or Lucas or something.

Nathan Scott:
Look Haley, it's late. Besides, what's the difference? You turn the lights out it's all the same darkness right?

Haley James Scott:
Nathan... You know when you took those drugs before the game, when you collapsed? You made a mistake, but I know you promised yourself that if you could have a second chance you would do things differently... I know that I hurt you. But I promised myself that if I could get you to listen then, um, I would tell you that there was never a day on that tour when I didn't think you were the best part of my life.

Nathan Scott:
You can't just say that Haley. Not after months of silence.

Haley James Scott:
Why? It's the truth.

Nathan Scott:
Really? What about the day you signed the anulment papers?

Haley James Scott:
The papers that you initiated?

Nathan Scott:
Yeah, after I drove a thousand miles to see you and you didn't even call me after I left. Must have been a hell of an encore.

Haley James Scott:
Nathan, you just walked away!

Nathan Scott:
Well it beats running away.

Haley James Scott:
I did call.

Nathan Scott:
You called our answering machine Haley!

Nathan Scott:
Because I knew that you were going to hang up on me anyway so I had to leave a message.

Nathan Scott:
Well I didn't even play it. I deleted you.

Haley James Scott:
Well... Then you deleted this: Um... I was being childish when I walked away from you for the tour. You gave me an ultimatum the night that I left and, uh, I fought back for all the wrong reasons. I was being stubborn... and I can't take that back, I wish that I could. Did I want to go? Yeah. I loved it, I loved every night of it. But I want you to know something Nathan. There was never a night where I loved it more than I loved you.

Jake:
Once upon a time there was a Princess who lived in a kingdom far, far away; and in that kingdom there also lived a boy and the Princess loved that boy and, so the two decided to marry.

Jake:
Now in this kingdom all was not well...

Jake:
So the princess and the boy were set to be wed and because she was a Princess, a call went out for a beautiful dress.

Jake:
Now as the wedding day approached, the Princess worried about the evil King. Because, although he had not always been this way his heart had grown dark and his kingdom had grown to fear and despise him.

Jake:
In the days before the wedding the king surprised the Princess and gave his blessing to the marriage. But, the Princess was still torn for even though she had found her true love it meant she would have to faithful handmaiden behind forever.

Jake:
On the eve of the Princess's wedding a lavish feast was arranged. Friends and royalty were summoned from lands far away to join the happy couple for a night of laughter and magic.

Jake:
As the night wore on a calm fell upon the land and all was right in the land, if only for a moment.

Jake:
But the people had their struggles as all people do and they had grown to fear and despise the King, whose heart had grown dark.

Jake:
But in the end the love between the Princess and the boy was undeniable and true. And, over time that love would see them through anything. Magical things happened to them, things they couldn't explain, much like love its self. And, like most fairy tales the Princess and the boy lived happily ever after... at least I hope they do.

Lucas 'Luke' Scott:
[Peyton's car has broken down, Lucas comes to tow it] Can I ask you a question?

Peyton:
It's a free country.

Lucas 'Luke' Scott:
Why are you a cheerleader? I mean, no offense or anything, but you're about the least cheery person I know. [Gets in wrecker, Peyton is waiting for Nathan to show up] Come on, let me give you a ride. I'll let you insult me.

Peyton:
First of all, you don't know me. Second of all, you don't know me. God, why are guys suck jerks?

Lucas 'Luke' Scott:
Guys or Nathan?

Peyton:
Him. You.

Lucas 'Luke' Scott:
I don't know. We share the same father.

Peyton:
Yeah, I heard that. He's kind of an ass. That must suck, having to see him around.

Lucas 'Luke' Scott:
For my mom. I never knew him.

Peyton:
But she told you he was your dad?

Lucas 'Luke' Scott:
Yeah, eventually. We used to play in junior leagues together, me and Nathan.

Peyton:
Basketball?

Lucas 'Luke' Scott:
Yeah. And I loved it, and I was good at it. Have you ever had something that you knew that you were better at than almost anybody else?

Peyton:
Sex. [Lucas gives her a look] Joke.

Lucas 'Luke' Scott:
Anyway. Guys kept teasing me about it, about how Nathan's dad was my dad too. So I asked my mom, and she said he wasn't, but, I get home, and I hear her crying in her room. And I knew it was true. So I never went back. And I told my mom it was because I didn't want to have to see his face. But it was mostly because... I don't want her to have to.

Peyton:
So why'd you just tell me all that? I mean, we don't even know each other.

Lucas 'Luke' Scott:
Maybe that's the point.

Brooke Davis:
I had a horrible dream last night where my best friend told me that she had feelings for my boyfriend. But that wasn't a dream, was it?

Peyton Saywer:
Brooke!

Brooke Davis:
Why now, Peyton? Why would you tell me that you have feelings for Lucas now, when I have so much stuff going on in my life? Stuff that you don't even know about!

Peyton Saywer:
Well, so do I. Okay, trust me. But, I didn't wish for this alright, I wished for Jake.

Brooke Davis:
Oh, right. You wished for Jake. After you wished for Pete, and then Lucas! I cannot believe this is happening again.

Peyton Saywer:
It's not okay, okay? It's not! The last time...

Brooke Davis:
The last time! Do you hear yourself right now? The last time you tried to steal my boyfriend! He's on the door Peyton! He's on the damn door under me!

Peyton Saywer:
I don't wanna steal him, okay?

Brooke Davis:
But you like him.

Peyton Saywer:
Brooke, I'm not gonna do anything about it. I'll just bury it. Okay?

Brooke Davis:
You can't, okay! It's out, it's like the time capsule! And, you could have buried it and not said anything to me about it. So, what is that about?

Peyton Saywer:
I don't - I just wanted to be honest with you, all right! I didn't wanna make the same mistake as I did last time. And, you even said last night at TRIC that you really didn't miss him.

Brooke Davis:
Don't you dare! Don't you dare twist my words around to make yourself feel like you are not a back-stabbing two faced b*tch, Peyton, because you are and you know it.

Lucas Scott:
Look, Brooke, I need you to listen to me. Okay? I understand that you didn't know about the kiss and I'm sorry for springing it on you, but I meant what I said. It didn't mean anything.

Brooke Davis:
A kiss always means something.

Lucas Scott:
Okay, maybe you're right. But it wasn't a romantic moment and you would know that if-.

Brooke Davis:
If what? I was there? As you so sweetly pointed out to me at the party, the party that I threw for you, I wasn't there, was I?

Lucas Scott:
Is it impossible for you to forgive me? I forgave you.

Brooke Davis:
For what?

Lucas Scott:
Sleeping with Chris Keller

Brooke Davis:
And you know what, Lucas, I loved you for that. You had such grace in that moment that I fell in love with you all over again. I just can't believe you would use it now as a bargaining chip!

Lucas Scott:
No, I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I, just, need you to trust me and believe me when I tell you my heart is with you. A part of me feels like ever since we got back together, you've just been waiting, waiting to push me away.

Brooke Davis:
Oh, great. You kiss Peyton, again, and I'm pushing you away. God! Why did I have to make everybody identicle purses as wedding gifts?

Lucas Scott:
I love you, Brooke. I don't know how else to say it.

Brooke Davis:
How about how you show it? I am not pushing you away, Lucas, I am holding on for dear life. But I need you to need me back, okay? Why didn't you tell me about the kiss? And why didn't you call me while you were away? And why won't you ever just let me all the way in? We have to go give our speeches now about love.

Lucas Scott:
Please don't be mad, Brooke.

Brooke Davis:
I'm not mad, Luke. I'm not mad.

College Guy:
[Brooke is drinking alone at a bar. A guy sits next to her. She gives him a fake smile then looks away] Buy you a drink?

Brooke Davis:
Okay, guy in need of a clue. Here's one. Women send signals. That was a brush off. Before you dip into your shallow pool of wit let me paint us a picture and save us both the trouble. Here's your evening. You are going to slink back off to your buddies, laugh this off, get wasted, go home, and make nice with yourself. But don't be thinking of me, because even your fantasy of me, isn't interested in you. [He leaves. Nikki is standing behind him and sits with Brooke]

Nikki:
Nice work. Extra points for style.

Brooke Davis:
I've seen you around. You're Jake's ex right?

Nikki:
No, he's mine. You go to Tree Hill? [Brooke nods] So what brings you out into the big, bad, real world?

Brooke Davis:
Anger, alcohol and a fake ID.

Nikki:
Nice combo. Men?

Nikki:
Dogs. Two of them. Ex boyfriend and backstabbing ex girly best friend.

Nikki:
Typical. If you have a strand of hair and five minutes I can show you a great curse you can put on them.

Brooke Davis:
Okay. [She pulls out a strand of hair] Bring it on, witch.

Nikki:
Okay. What are their names?

Brooke Davis:
Lucas and Peyton. [Nikki looks at her] Mm.

Nikki:
And where are they tonight?

Brooke Davis:
They are at a party that I was not invited to. Can you believe that? They sneak around like little mongrels and I get removed from the A list.

Bartender:
Can I get you ladies anything?

Nikki:
Yeah, two vodkas. And two for my new friend here.

Brooke Davis:
Now you're talking, witchiepoo.

Nikki:
Mm hm.
