[first lines]

The Narrator:
Long before the dawn of man, strife was already a major component of life. Wherever a creature shared a piece of land with another, it was just a matter of time until a struggle for resources would ensue. Man was no different, showcasing a perverse fascination with violence. Man and civilization brought forth more innovative ways of taking human life than any other function needed for survival. There are more ways of killing a man than there are ways of making bread or making love. While the latter two are quite limited in scale, man has gone beyond imagination with his capacity to destroy life with one push of a button. Between uncontrolled crime in the streets and escalating war on the borders, it was all just a matter of time. From the ashes, a new world was born. The surviving nations finally realized that man's unstoppable appetite for destruction must be contained. A ban on all firearms was strictly enforced. And just as the sword gave way to the gun, the gun gave way to the sword; leaving the authorities to carry the hope of their nations on the tip of a spear. Little did they know that the self-destructive nature of man could never be stopped. There's not enough love in this world, not enough money to prevent this ancient circle from coming around again. When the time is ripe, evil will rise; personified in our case with a wood cutter. Nikola is his name, and this is his town, his land. The God forsaken place where our tale begins. And as many ways as there are of killing a man, there are equally as many ways of telling this old tale of strife.

Thomas Forrester:
After we ate the berries, we made love.

[first lines]

Thomas Fowler:
[narrating] I can't say what made me fall in love with Vietnam.That a woman's voice can drug you? That everything is so intense? The colors, the taste, even the rain. Nothing like the filthy rain in London.

Thomas Fowler:
They say whatever you're looking for, you will find here. They say you come to Vietnam and you understand a lot in a few minutes, but the rest has got to be lived. The smell: that's the first thing that hits you, promising everything in exchange for your soul. And the heat. Your shirt is straightaway a rag. You can hardly remember your name, or what you came to escape from. But at night, there's a breeze. The river is beautiful. You could be forgiven for thinking there was no war; that the gunshots were fireworks; that only pleasure matters. A pipe of opium, or the touch of a girl who might tell you she loves you. And then, something happens, as you knew it would. And nothing can ever be the same again.

Thomas' Mother:
[desperately to her young son] Remember, I love you. I love you, Thomas.

Tim Lippe:
[voice-over] One of the reasons I love Brown Valley so much is that when you do business here, chances are good you know the person you're dealing with.

[first lines]

Title Card:
More and more she grew to love human beings and wished that she could leave the sea and live among them...

[first lines]

Tom:
Heh-hee-hee. That's what I call a trolley.

Wesley:
Probably the finest trolley in captivity.

Smiler:
Huh. That's because you made it.

Wesley:
That's because I'm encouraging you to like it. Because I've decided that you ought to road-test it.

Smiler:
Eh? If everybody's in love with this trolley, how comes I'm the one who's got to ride it?

Wesley:
You've got the legs for it. I noticed instantly.

Tom:
Come on, Smiler. It'll put some sparkle back into your life.

Smiler:
What makes you think I haven't got sparkle?

Wesley:
A wild guess.

Tom:
Sparkle? You need a jump start! Think on it; you've lost your taste for simple pleasures.

Smiler:
What's simple about risking your life in that?

Wesley:
Almost no risk. Really.

Tom:
One time of day you'd have been thrilled to bits to risk your life in this. It's time you recaptured the thrill of things, rediscovered your childlike joy.

[first lines]

Tom:
What a lovely day. Heart's ticking over like an excellent motor; lungs easing in and out like contented bellows; prostate doing what a prostate oughta do. In fact: [sings] I'm as corny as Kansas in August/ High as a flag on the fourth of July / And if you'll excuse the expression I use / I'm in love with a wonderful guy!

[Diana looks at him]

Tom:
Uh, that's the song. I'm not really in love with a wonderful guy.

Diana:
Oh, go on, be the oldest man to come out of the closet; give us all a chance to be positive and supportive and all those other wonderfully politically correct thingummies.

Tom:
Thought you didn't like political correctness.

Diana:
Oh, no, no, I think it's a wonderful fad. Probably not as spiritually uplifting as the hula hoop but undoubtedly better for the health.

Tom:
One day the thought police will get you, Diana.

Diana:
Oh yes, and I will be clubbed to the cold stone floor still proclaiming my right to be as tasteless and offensive and politically incorrect as I ever was and ever will be, amen.

[first lines]

Tony:
[his clock stops ticking] Not again...

[his door opens, a black hooded figure enters and draws closer to the bed, he sits up abruptly to awake and find it's morning]

Tony:
I hate that dream.

[sees the figure from his nightmare is standing by his bed]

Tony:
AHHHHHH...!

Kiki:
AHHH!

Kristen:
AHHH!

Betty Ann:
Oh, yeah!

Frank:
Excellent, all right!

Kiki:
So? What happened?

Eric:
Dunno.

Frank:
What do you *mean* ya don't know?

Eric:
I mean I don't *know*. I'll figure something out for next time.

Betty Ann:
Ooh, a cliffhanger. I love it.

Gary:
Yeah, but I mean what about, tonight? It's almost lights-out and we haven't had a full story yet.

Kristen:
Shouldn't call a meeting without a full story, Eric.

Eric:
It's better than no story at all. Hey, I don't see anybody else jumping in.

David:
...I've got one.

Frank:
Whoa, he speaks. Who woke *you* up?

[first lines]

Vanessa:
Home.

Jack:
Home.

Vanessa:
Here's the low-balling the seller and still getting $50,000 off after the home inspection.

Vanessa, Jack:
[hi-five each other]

Jack:
We could paint this place today, sell it tomorrow, and still make money.

Vanessa:
Yes, we could. I love you, Jack Watson.

Jack:
I love you. Now, let me carry you over that goddamn threshold.

[first lines]

Verity:
We're all very excited about your script, aren't we David?

Film Executive:
Oh, we all love the script. All of us.

Verity:
It's so wonderful. It's... It's quite fabulous.

Film Executive:
Absolutely

Verity:
It's brilliant, quite brilliant.

Bernard:
Yes, well what initially attracted me to the idea is...

Verity:
[to waiter] Bucks Fizz, please.

Bernard:
...is there's this unashamedly powerful, socialist epic. And as a director, the way Paul's captured the sheer size of the struggle...

Film Executive:
[to waiter] Anything but a Coca Cola, thank you.

Bernard:
...millions of people unemployed. Families ripped apart, whole communities on tranquilisers.

[to waiter]

Bernard:
Thank you. It's... It's... It's magnificent.

Verity:
No, It's smashing stuff. I mean when I got to the end I felt as if I had been through the miners' strike myself.

Film Executive:
Oh absolutely! I mean if we're going to revitalize the British film industry from an American perspective then 'Miners Strike' is undoubtedly the sort of film we should be doing this year.

Verity:
Oh, I agree. It has terrific potential.

Film Executive:
[pause] What about Al Pacino as Arthur Scargill?

Goldie:
Can Pacino box?

Verna Addis:
[Major watches the television in his kitchen] My father has been missing for two days now. He's six-feet tall, with brown hair and brown eyes. If you've seen him, or have heard of anything at all, please contact the Seattle Police. Please help us find our dad. We love him so much and we just want him to come home.

Vicki Burke:

Detective Huggins:

Walter Black:
This is a picture of Walter Black, a hopelessly depressed individual. Somewhere inside him is a man who fell in love. Who started a family. Who ran a successful company. That man has gone missing. Watcher Prime:
For millennia, the peaceful teachings of the world of Zenn-La have brought the universe wisdom and hope. Attempting to ease his eternal hunger for energy, the unvanquishable being known as Galactus struck at Zenn-La. The destruction of the planet appeared immanent. [voiceover] People do a whole lot of things in the name of love, more than I ever thought possible. When we first made this deal, you and me, I remember thinking about that, about love. Nick's Father:

Narrator:
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He could name off the months and their special days too. Franklin liked February for Valentine's Day, when he made cards for all of his friends. But what if his cards couldn't be delivered on that special day?

Franklin Turtle:
[putting the finishing touches on a Valentine card] What do you think, Snail?

Snail:
That's great, Franklin. Bear will love it.

Franklin Turtle:
Yeah. I put lots and lots of sparkles on it.

[inserting final piece into a puzzle] Got it.

Timothy's Mom:
Supper's ready. Goodness me, look at all these puzzles!

Timothy:
Yeah! We're having a Surprise Puzzle Day at school tomorrow, Mom.

Timothy's Mom:
That sounds like fun.

Timothy:
I can't wait! I love doing puzzles!

Doris:
Huh? [sounds of laughter] It snowed! I love snow! I can't wait to play outside.

Nicole Lauker:

That's one hell of an argument for me to let you keep traveling for work.

Evan Lauker:
