Angel Beats!

[The SSS members are together in the meeting room to discuss what happened on the last mission.]

Hinata:
[At Yuri] Alright, can you please give us the down-low on what we found?

Yuri:
Hm...Angel has been developing her own abilities. She's using the same method we are to make our weapons.

Ōyama:
What does that mean?

Yuri:
I'm not sure. I can't say anything for certain.

Fujimaki:
Why not? You're being a little too vague, Yurripe.

Yuri:
[Thinking] For her to do things the same way we do; it could mean the worst possible scenario for us. It would mean there is no God. If she's an angel, why doesn't she get her powers from God? Why does she have to develop them for herself? It just doesn't make any sense.

Takamatsu:
And here's another problem: [Places Iwasawa's acoustic guitar on the table.] where did Iwasawa go?

Noda:
Didn't Angel obliterate her?

Hinata:
During her performance?

Noda:
Then what did you think happened?

Ōyama:
So, who kidnapped Iwasawa and-

Yuri:
[Aloud] No one did. She accepted her fate. That's all there is to it.

Otonashi:
[Thinking] Well, I learned one thing: obeying Angel and enjoying school life wasn't the only way to get obliterated.

[Otonashi, Hinata, and Yui are looking for Shiina in the gym storage room to recruit for their baseball team.]

Hinata:
Shiina! Where are you? Come on out! Shiina! [Notices her hiding behind a wall.] Huh?

Shiina:
What is it?

Hinata:
I was looking for you. You've got great reflexes, right?

Shiina:
I wouldn't know about all that.

Hinata:
I know you'd be great for the team! It's baseball! Let's play baseball!

Shiina:
Ever since that day, I keep running it over and over in my head how I could've lost to that newbie.

Hinata:
Are you talking about the operation "Parachute" to the Guild? Otonashi's become a legend because he was the only survivor.

Otonashi:
Oh, come on. I was just lucky.

Shiina:
I just don't get it. I should be stronger than you in every possible way.

Otonashi:
I bet.

Shiina:
But if I was inferior to you in any way, it would be in concentration.

Otonashi:
Nah, I think you have way better concentration than me.

Shiina:
Ever since that day, [Appears fully from behind the wall, balancing a broom with one finger.] I've been balancing this stupid broom on the tip of my finger!

Yui:
[Whispering, to Hinata] She's a moron.

Hinata:
[Whispering] Yeah, but she's a powerful moron.

Shiina:
[To Otonashi] It's perfect timing; let's fight, kid.

Otonashi:
How can we fight when you're holding a broom?

Hinata:
Through baseball, of course! Just see who gets voted "Most Valuable Player" or something. But you guys can't fight one on one!

Shiina:
Hm. Very well then.

Otonashi:
[To Shiina] I don't have to balance a broom, do I?

Shiina:
Of course not. This will make the gap in our concentration levels obvious.

Hinata:
Okay then, it's settled!

Yui:
It seems we're recruiting nothing but morons!

Yuri:
At last. The time has finally come.

Otanashi:
What? Is something starting soon?

Yuri:
Angel's rampage is about to begin.

Otanashi:
What? What do you mean by "Angel's rampage"? [Shows scene of what Otanashi thinks as "Angel's rampage" with a group of the SSS members fighting Angel fiercely.] But-but...Why is she going on a rampage?

Yuri:
Because tests are coming up.

Otanashi:
Uh...Come again?

Takamatsu:
Think about it. It's of the most vital importance that we attend class and get good grades on our tests, and important that we excel. At least it's important to Angel. [Otanashi's previous theory of what "Angel's rampage" is like is shattered.]

Yuri:
But this testing period is a perfect chance for us to make Angel flunk her tests.

Fujimaki:
Sounds to me like you've already got a plan, Yurippie. Come on, let's hear it.

Yuri:
We'll interfere with all of Angel's tests; make her flunk them. That'll put her as worst student in the whole school.

Otanashi:
So what happens then?

Yuri:
She loses face. Will she be able to maintain respect as our student body president?

Otanashi:
Think that'll weaken her?

Yuri:
At the very least, the way the students and teachers view her will change. It will result in an unprecedented shift in perception.

Matsushita:
Such as?

Yuri:
Dunno. Even I can't figure that out.

Matsushita:
Then what's the point?

Yuri:
(Thinking) But if she isn't an angel made by God and doesn't have an iron heart, if she's just a normal human soul like us, that loss of face will cause some serious mental damage...and a rift in her mental state of emotional well-being.

[Yuri is about to explain the next operation.]

Yuri:
First off, I'll determine who's participating in this operation. I pulled some strings to get several of us in the same testing room as Angel.

Fujimaki:
I'm sorry. I don't understand why we don't just surround her?

Yuri:
Yeah, right! That won't happen! We can't afford any mistakes! If they discover our operation midway, we'll be sent to different classrooms. We won't be able to ensure that Angel gets zeroes.

Noda:
I see. I'll pass on this mission. This sort of sneaking around stuff is for pussies.

Yuri:
The participating members will be Takamatsu, Hinata, Ōyama, Takeyama, and Otonashi.

Otonashi:
Not me, again!

Takeyama:
[At Yuri] Would you please call me "Christ"?

Yuri:
[Ignoring Takeyama] I merely chose normal-looking people. Now then, operation start!

[Yuri is explaining the seating arrangements for the exam room.]

Yuri:
Seat arrangements will be decided by lottery the morning of the tests. It'll be hard messing with Angel's tests if we aren't near her. [To Otonashi in the classroom] Listen up. Get the seat right next to hers.

Otonashi:
Don't ask for the impossible.

Hinata:
[Grabbing a lotto out of the box.] Gotcha! [Unfolds his lotto] 20? I'm out!

Takamatsu:
[Holding his lotto] I'm number 11. That's very far from Angel.

Ōyama:
[Holding his lotto] I'm 33. [Laughing] I'm way off!

Otonashi:
[Reaching into the box] My turn. [Takes a lotto and reads it] 24. That's awfully far.

Yuri:
[Holding her lotto cheerfully] Yes! I got 1! [Aggravated] Damn! This stinks! [Stomping on her lotto] Isn't anyone near her, in front of her, or next to her?

Takeyama:
I'm in front of her.

Yuri:
Sweet!

Takeyama:
So, what am I supposed to do? [The group then gathers around Yuri's desk.]

Yuri:
Alright, I want you to take two answer sheets when they're handed out. Swap the fake one with Angel's when you pass them up to the front of the class. Make sure her answer sheet is blank. No, wait a sec. Making it look blank looks suspicious. Just write down a bunch of stupid answers.

Takeyama:
What do you mean?

Yuri:
I don't know. Write what you want to be in the future.

Takeyama:
But I'm afraid this is a physics test.

Yuri:
That's okay. Write something like "I wanna be an airplane pilot or a dolphin trainer.

Otonashi:
That's pretty stupid...

Takeyama:
How do I swap them out?

Yuri:
Hinata, look for the perfect opportunity to take action! Make sure everyone's attention focuses on you!

Hinata:
That's nuts.

Yuri:
Why do you think I put you in this operation anyway?

Hinata:
I didn't know I was gonna be a class clown!

Yuri:
Okay, that's the distraction part, and while he's distracting everyone, Takeyama, swap out your fake answer sheet with Angel's real one. At any rate, don't panic if something unexpected happens. Everyone's here to help out, okay? Any questions?

Takeyama:
Yes. I have a question for you. What exactly should I put down on the test for her name? [Everyone is completely clueless.]

Takamatsu:
Angel?

Hinata:
Stupid. Wouldn't "Student body president" work?

Ōyama:
Sounds good! I mean, she's stupid enough to put "I wanna be a dolphin trainer"!

Otonashi:
No! No! It's too stupid for her not to know her own name! Actually, I'm surprised none of you know it!

Yuri:
We never had a chance to learn it.

Otonashi:
There's a shocker.

Yuri:
Then you go look it up. Go to the teacher's office and check the class roster.

Otonashi:
[Runs for the exit] This stinks! We shouldn't be- [He stops when he sees Angel sees him trying to leave.]

Angel:
Where are you going? The test is about to start.

Otonashi:
Well, um, I'm getting nervous so... [Thinking] Crap! Now what do I do? I feel bad for her if we put "Student body president" as her name. No, that's not the problem. If 20mhtz of resistance is applied to 3 volts, how many amps is the electric current? Answer Mr. Train-Conducting Amps!

Angel:
Are you that nervous?

Otonashi:
[Aloud] N-No. N-Not really.

Angel:
Relax. It will be okay, uh...

Otonashi:
Oh. I'm Otonashi.

Angel:
Otonashi.

Otonashi:
Actually, I don't know your name either. What is it?

Angel:
Who, me? I'm Tachibana.

Otonashi:
First name?

Angel:
My first name? It's Kanade.

Otonashi:
Kanade Tachibana. Nice to meet you. [Thinking] What a beautiful name. It was a beautiful melodic name. Just as it's meaning implied. [Aloud] Thanks a lot, Tachibana. You've really helped me calm down.

Kanade:
Well, good luck. [Otonashi walks back over to the group.]

Otonashi:
She's Kanade Tachibana.

Yuri:
Yeah, that's her name alright.

Otonashi:
So you did know?!

Yuri:
It just slipped my mind.

[Naoi has locked up Otonashi and Kanade for disobeying rules. Otonashi attempts to ram the steel door down.]

Otonashi:
He didn't have to lock us for over eating mabu tofu during break! [To Kanade] Where the heck are we, anyway? It's like we're in solitary confinement!

Kanade:
I'm tired. I'm going to sleep. [Climbs onto the bed in the corner, takes off her shoes, and puts them at the foot of the bed.]

Otonashi:
Hey! Now isn't the time...

Kanade:
What else is there to do?

Otonashi:
But this is messed up! We can't let him lock us up in solitary confinement!

Kanade:
It's so we'll reflect on the error of our ways.

Otonashi:
Yeah, but normally people don't sleep in situations like this!

Kanade:
[Yawning] I'm tired. Good night. [Goes to sleep]

Otonashi:
She seriously went to sleep! [Sits down on the bed and sighs.]

[Otonashi and Kanade are in solitary confinement for disobeying rules. Kanade is asleep. Otonashi hears an explosion which makes the room shake.]

Otonashi:
What's that sound? An earthquake? Is there a battle? Or help? [Otonashi remembers the two-way radio Yuri gave him.] That's right! [He takes it out of his pocket.] I have this! [Attempts to reach Yuri on the other end.] Yuri! I've been locked up! [No response. Otonashi becomes frustrated.] It's broken! She dumped a piece of junk on me! [Throws the radio on the bed. He then attempts to try and find a way out with no luck.]

Yuri:
[On radio] Otonashi? Otonashi? Do you copy? Otonashi? [Otonashi rushes over to the radio.]

Otoanshi:
I hear you! [Otonashi hears another explosion which shakes the room again.]

Yuri:
I'll assume you can hear me, Otonashi. Listen carefully. Ayato Naoi wasn't an NPC. He's a human with a soul, just like us.

Otonashi:
That's impossible!

Yuri:
Doesn't that seem strange? As former vice president, he should have been behaving like a model student. Therefore, he should have gotten obliterated; unable to maintain his human form. But he's cruel. He's been bullying normal students behind our backs. He acts accordingly in public, but he's ruthless behind the scenes. That's how he's been maintaining his balance in this world.

Otonashi:
But why would he do that?

Yuri:
He's running loose in our world now that Angel is no longer there to keep him in check. We still don't know what he's after. We're going into battle. It's a horrible battle, unlike any we've ever faced. He knows we can't attack the normal students; he's using them as shields and hostages. We've got no choice but to do what he says. This has turned into a one-sided battle. He's shooting down our friends one by one. I think...I think Angel has been locked in confinement. I checked the introspection room he locked us in, but I couldn't find her. I think she's been locked somewhere that's harder to break out of. Something like a safehouse or something. Hey, Otonashi, I bet you're with Angel now, aren't you? Hey, Otonashi? Bring Angel to us. We need Angel if we're going to put this horrible battle to an end. We're running out of time. Please, bring her to the field. [Otonashi hears gunfire and screams in the background.] I'm going now! Well, best of luck! [Yuri cuts the connection.]

[The members of the SSS are spending their time in the meeting room.]and having fun talking and telling the pink head guy to do somthing

Hinata:
Aw geez, is this elementary school? We're getting nothing but brats! [Referring to Yui]

Naoi:
I'm sorry, but were you referring to me? I am God.

Hinata:
Ugh, are you still going on about that? And here you clung into Otonashi and cried like a baby.

Naoi:
[Glaring at Hinata] Who did you say cried? [Hinata jumps in surprise.] You'll be the one crying. [Hypnotizing Hinata] Come on, realize how useful clothespins are.

Hinata:
Huh?!

Naoi:
Despair in your uselessness and inferiority to the clothespins. [Naoi drops a clothespin on the table.]

Hinata:
C-Clothespin...pin things...They keep clothes from falling and GETTING DIRTY! THEY'RE WONDERFUL! THEY CAN EVEN BE USED AS PAPERCLIPS! THEY'RE SO VERSATILE! WHY AM I IN COMPARISON TO THEM?! I'M NOT WORTHY TO THINK OF IT! I'M NOT WORTHY! [Otonashi picks up Naoi by his collar.]

Otonashi:
[At Naoi] Look here, don't abuse your hypnotic abilities.

Naoi:
Otonashi, good morning!

Otonashi:
What did you do to that poor guy?

Naoi:
He started it. I was just trying to end things peacefully, that's all got it?

Otonashi:
How is that peaceful?! You made a grown man cry on his knees!

[Otonashi and the SSS have escaped the rouge Kanade clone, but lost Noda.]

Hinata:
Now there are two rampaging Angels. This is worse than our last Operation Parachute.

Otonashi:
Why were there two of her?

Yuri:
The clones can use Handsonic and Distortion. That means they can use Harmonics, too.

Naoi:
You're truly imbeciles, you know that. [At Otonashi] E-Except for you, Otonashi. You're smart! [At Yuri] Allow me to list off the problems for you.

Yuri:
Please do.

Naoi:
There are two problems, in fact. First of all, how many clones did the copy make? And if the clones can make more clones, then there's no end to them.

Hinata:
So, let me get this straight. What you're telling us is that there might be ten or twenty clones, not just two of them?

Otonashi:
Hold on. I thought Yuri added an additional ability? Aren't the clones supposed to return to the original? Can't we just wait for them to vanish?

Naoi:
And that would be the second problem. What if they made all these clones before that ability was added? What if THAT was the real issue? [Everyone is in shock by what Naoi said.]

Hinata:
Wait! That means-

Naoi:
Hmph. Even you low-lives are starting to understand. [At Otonashi] Of course, I'm not talking about you! You're a proud noble! [At group] See, what if they knew all along that we would come here, and made a bunch of clones to ambush us in the Guild?

Hinata:
That would be...

TK:
A trap, dude.

Naoi:
That's correct. A trap. There's already two clones behind us. They aren't vanishing, so we don't stand a chance. I imagine there's more waiting for us.

Matsushita:
So you're telling me we're trapped in here?

Fujimaki:
We can't replenish our supplies either. Looks like this is all just a matter of time.

Hinata:
Why are they doing this to us anyway?

Yuri:
I imagine her ultimate goal is pure submission. That is her mission after all.

Fujimaki:
She wants us to LET her obliterate us?

Hinata:
It's the perfect plan to wipe us all out at once.

Yuri:
Let's go. [Everyone stands up and follows Yuri.]

[Otonashi and the SSS are walking down a corridor and find the third Kanade waiting for them.]

Hinata:
Look out! There's another one.

Fujimaki:
It's the third one.

[Yuri pulls out a pistol and aims it at the Kanade clone, only to have Matsushita stop her.]

Matsushita:
It's a waste of your bullets. [Mastushita walks in front of Yuri and charges at the Kanade clone.]

Otonashi:
H-Hey! What're you doing?! [The Kanade clone activates Handsonic and stabs Matsushita through the chest while he is blocking her.]

SSS Members:
Matsushita the Fifth!

Matsushita:
G-Go. Get outta here while I'm still conscious!

Hinata:
Wait, you make it sound like you're about to die or something, man!

Yuri:
Hurry up! Take this opportunity to run for it! [Yuri runs ahead of the Kanade clone and the dying Matsushita with the other SSS members following.]

Hinata:
Yeah!

Fujimaki:
Hang in there Matsushita the Fifth!

Matsushita:
[Shouting] The rest is up to you guys!

[Yuri and the other SSS members walk down another corridor after leaving behind Matsushita.]

Yuri:
We won't let Matsushita's sacrifice be in vain. Thanks to him, we learned the best method is to keep moving. Angel is small, so pinning her down is the best strategy. No matter how strong Angel is, Judo lock should work on her. Looks like the day the Judo Matsushita taught us has finally come.

Takamatsu:
Then we shall sacrifice just one person per clone. Is that not correct?

Otonashi:
What do you mean "just"?

Yuri:
Looks like we'll be able to save everyone if we can just save the original Angel. Let's hurry.

[Yuri and the SSS members come to another corridor and find the fourth Kanade clone.] They also find a banana in the corner

Otonashi:
It's the fourth one...[TK walks in front of the group.]

TK:
It's my turn, dudes. Good-bye and good luck. [TK runs toward the Kanade clone, leaps above it, and is stabbed through the chest.]

SSS Members:
TK!!!

Hinata:
Hey! What gives?! It's like we're at the climax of a boy's comic book!

Yuri:
Oh, knock it off! We need to keep moving! [The group encounters the fifth clone.]

Takamatsu:
The time to show off my prowess has come. [He takes off his shirt and charges at the clone and gets killed.]

SSS Members:
Takamatsu! [The group encounters the sixth clone.]

Fujimaki:
Heh heh...I can't chicken out now. [Fujimaki charges at the clone and gets killed.]

SSS Members:
Fujimaki! [The group encounters the seventh clone.]

Shiina:
This is so stupid...[She charges at the clone.] This is just so stupid! [She gets stabbed by the clone.]

SSS Members:
Shiina! [They encounter the eighth clone. Naoi hypnotizes Ōyama.]

Naoi:
It's time you realized...You're a clown...Lookie, there in the darkness is a lonely little girl...

Ōyama:
Oh, no! You're right. [Ōyama gleefully walks toward the Kanade clone.] I've gotta make her laugh!!! [Ōyama is killed by the clone.]

Hinata:
Ōyama!!!

Otonashi:
[At Naoi] You're horrible, you know that?

Naoi:
[Nervous] Otonashi, you've got it wrong! Please hear me out! It was a figure of speech! I'll go next! [He gets killed by the ninth clone, but no one says anything.]

Hinata:
Hey, someone say something...?

Yui:
Nah, I don't even know his name.

Yuri:
Let's go...

[The members of the SSS are in the infirmary with Kanade, who is unconscious in bed after being stabbed by a duplicate of herself.]

Otonashi:
Will Kanade be alright? Wasn't that injury serious?

Yuri:
She's the same as us; she'll recover from a fatal injury soon enough.

Hinata:
Why was there two of her? Has this world gone completely bonkers?

Yuri:
There's a reason for it.

Noda:
Such as?

Yuri:
Don't you guys remember when we infiltrated Angel's domain?

Hinata:
Yeah?

Yuri:
Her computer had software for creating new skills. There were several abilities listed she's never used before. Amongst those skills was one called "Harmonics", which has been activated.

Otonashi:
Harmonics? What type of ability is it?

Yuri:
Didn't you see the screen? It was a skill that let her replicate herself. It's her clone.

Otonashi:
Clone?!

Takamatsu:
Wait a minute. Are you saying Angel made that skill with her software?

Fujimaki:
But it didn't look like it was an exact copy to me.

Hinata:
Unlike this one [Referring to the Kanade in bed.] she liked to fight. Why's that?

Otonashi:
Kanade only uses her powers to defend herself! That goes for her sword, too! It's for deflecting bullets!

Naoi:
I swear, you're a group of imbeciles! [To Otonashi] Of course, you're the exception, Otonashi!

Yui:
We're basically a group of morons!

Naoi:
Allow me to explain one possibility. What if that copy was suddenly created when she felt a strong and aggressive desire to fight?

Yuri:
Like back then. [Referring to the fish catching incident where Kanade had to use Handsonic in order to kill the fish.]

Hinata:
Makes sense. So the copy is simply obeying orders the original made back then?

Otonashi:
But Kanade...She's not filled with a strong desire to fight.

Yuri:
[To Otonashi] Not that I care, but you're really defending her, aren't you?

Otonashi:
Well, I feel sorry for her.

Yuri:
Fine. Whatever.

Ōyama:
So, what was the problem at hand?

Noda:
How do we fight against Angel's copy?

Naoi:
Are you stupid? It's how we vanquish her.

Noda:
What was that?! [Noda attempts to approach Naoi with his weapon, but it held back by Matsusuta.] What are you doing?! Let go of me!

Matsushita:
[To Naoi] But if she consciously made her, couldn't she make her disappear? We just need to wait for her to wake up!

Hinata:
Wait! Would she be in this condition that were possible?

Yuri:
She probably subconsciously made the clone appear. That's why she couldn't make it disappear. She had to fight it, even if it meant getting hurt.

Fujimaki:
Hey, hey, hey! Just a second! You mean if it can't disappear, we're stuck with that in our world now?

Yuri:
Oh, she may be ignoring us now, but that status will change tomorrow. If we don't act like model students, we'll have another bloody battle exactly like the one we experienced yesterday.

Ōyama:
Even though she's not the student body president?

Yuri:
Doesn't matter. She's fully inherited the will to reform us. Plus, she likes to fight. This is not looking good. At all.

Hinata:
We don't have enough time to fight back.

Yuri:
Hm...Just give me a little time.

Otonashi:
Exactly how do you want us to buy you time?

Yuri:
Go to class and pretend you're taking is seriously. No matter what, don't listen to the teachers. You'll be obliterated if you take the class too seriously. Do something else, but don't let the clone catch on. Pull through the day. I pray everyone will still be here when we meet again.

[The members of the SSS are in the meeting room discussing what happened after the last operation "Parachute"]

Takamatsu:
[To Yuri] This is completely unprecedented. I've never seen someone like this before. There's a distinct possibility that she (Kanade) may never wake up.

Yuri:
But that in itself would be irregular! She'll wake up! She'll wake up eventually and act as if she's merely overslept.

Shiina:
But who will she be? When she awakens? [Everyone is surprised that Shiina actually spoke up during the meeting.]

Ōyama:
That only proves how grave this situation is!

Yuri:
[To Shiina] You're absolutely right. That's the real problem.

Fujimaki:
So which Angel will it be?

Ōyama:
The first one! I say the one we went fishing with!

Noda:
Yeah, yeah. But the ones that attacked us before were cruel fighting fanatics.

Fujimaki:
It's one-hundred to one mathematically speaking.

Hinata:
So you're saying that's why she's unconscious? All those minds are gushed together in her tiny head? Wreaking all sorts of havoc like a horde of jellyfish attacking her mind or is it a gaggle?

Ōyama:
So, assuming she wakes up, she might wake up as one-hundred different people?

Yuri:
Statistically speaking, there's a one percent chance she'll be the same old her when she wakes up.

Hinata:
What should we do?

Yuri:
I have a plan. I sent Takeyama into Angel's domain. He's with some people who can translate the manual.

Hinata:
Where's T.K. and Matsushita?

Yuri:
The infirmary. They're guarding it.

Hinata:
Surprisingly, T.K. stinks at English.

Naoi:
Let's get this straight: so they're going to delete all the data, change the login password, and steal away all her abilities? But that's merely buying us time. Do you realize that?

Yuri Of course I do. She'll break through our defenses and recreate the data.

Noda:
[Wielding his halberd] Then why don't we just destroy the computer?

Yuri:
There are plenty of replacement computers available in the computer room. Same for the software.

Fujimaki:
Damn it, man!

Yui:
Huh. Everyone seems really smart today. Did you eat something rotten?

Yuri:
All we can do now is wait. I wonder who will God side with?

[Otonashi is trying to figure out from Yui what he needs for her to do in order for her to pass on.]

Otonashi:
So what else do you wanna do?

Yui:
Do I have to tell you?

Otonashi:
No, not if you don't want to, I guess.

Yui:
It's okay. I'll tell you. I want to do more than most. Why do you think that is? I don't know. I just do.

Otonashi:
Well, you know. Because you couldn't do it in life, right?

Yui:
Yeah, exactly! When I was little, I got hit from behind by a car. After that, I was paralyzed. I was completely bedridden. I couldn't live without help. I was completely reliant on my mom. I felt really bad for her. All I could do was watch TV. When I watched music programs and rock bands, I thought how cool it would be if I could do that.

Otonashi:
I see. Then isn't this great?

Yui:
Yep!

Otonashi:
What else do you wanna do?

Yui:
Well, I used to watch baseball games a lot too I guess.

Otonashi:
We just played baseball in the ball tournament.

Yui:
But I didn't pull it off.

Otonashi:

Yui:

Otonashi:
[Thinking] It'll be pretty hard juggling those two...[Aloud] Just checking, is there anything else?

Yui:
Soccer!

Otonashi:
Soccer?!

Yui:
Remember the soccer boom?

Otonashi:
Yeah...there might've been one a while back...[Thinking] Who in the world is in a band, a baseball team, and a soccer team?! [Aloud] Don't tell me there's more?

Yui:
Pro-wrestling, I guess.

Otonashi:
[Thinking] That doesn't make any sense! Where in the world...I guess she dreams of this stuff she saw on TV. Making all that happen is gonna kill me! [Aloud] Okay!

Yui:
Huh?

Otonashi:
I'll make it happen! First we'll, uh, start with the easiest. Let's try pro-wrestling.

Yui:
Pro-wrestling?

Otonashi:
What move is it?

Yui:
The German Suplex!

Otonashi:
[Gasps] You can't start with a tough move like that! Make it something more doable like a hold!

Yui:
But I've always admired people who could do a German Suplex! It's a cool move! I wanna hold you down until I win!

Otonashi:
Don't say scary stuff so cutely! Ugh...Alright, then. Okay! We'll give it a try!

Yui:
You sure?

Otonashi:
Yeah.

Yui Oooh, yeah! [Yui grabs Otonashi from behind preparing to do the move.] Ups y-daisy! [Yui lifts Otonashi a bit off the ground.]

Otonashi:
You're stronger than I thought! You can do it! [Yui attempts to do the move, but ends up throwing Otonashi behind her, who hits his head on the pathway.] Ow! Oh, that hurt!

Yui:
I guess it's impossible for a girl like me.

Otonashi:
[Regaining his composure] No! You almost did it! You were super close!

Yui:
Really? Can I try it again? Please?

Otonashi:
Sure...but can we go somewhere with grass? I'll die otherwise. For real.

Yui:
[Laughing] Like you can die!

Otonashi:
No...I wasn't joking...

[The entire SSS are in the gymnasium to discuss their current situation with the shadows.]

Yuri:
Abnormalities are occurring in this world. An enemy aside from Angel has appeared. It's a direct description, but we call them "shadows". Unlike Angel, they can come and go at any time and attack indiscriminately. Anyone devoured by the shadows loses their soul and turns into an NPC who attends class daily. They are currently replicating without end. We don't know what created them and currently have no countermeasures. Just as Yusa told us, everyone should travel in groups for safety. Now then, in the middle of this crisis there are some in the Afterlife Battlefront who have adopted new ideals. They're attempting to lead the Battlefront down a different path. And that different path is a potential escape from the crisis plaguing our world. As such, I would like to ask...I would like to ask Otonashi to serve as representative and explain his viewpoint. [The crowd looks at Otonashi.]

Naoi:
[To Otonashi] She figured it out.

Hinata:
[To Otonashi, nudging him to the stage.] Go on. [Otonashi goes to the front of the stage and inaudibly tells the crowd what he had been doing with Kanade.]

SSS Member A:
Screw you! Cut the crap already!

SSS Member B:
Yeah! That couldn't happen in this world! That's too good to be true!

Hinata:
It already happened! [Goes beside Otonashi] Yui managed to find it. Even someone like me who managed to die as a sorry excuse for a human. A sad loser like me was given a chance like that in this world.

Naoi:
Same here. [Goes beside Otonashi and Hinata] But then, I'm God. Even so, Otonashi was the only one who helped me regain my human heart. He did it with a single word and heartfelt praise.

Yuri:
I'll let everyone decide what to do for themselves.

SSS Member A:
And you? What will you do, Yurripe?

Yuri:
Me? I've always done whatever I wanted to. I can't protect you this time. I'll simply do whatever I want. We don't have much time. Think this over on your own. That is all. You're dismissed.

[Yuri is in an alternate reality where she is an NPC, attending classes.]

Teacher:
-as such, you should memorize this. [Notices Yuri isn't paying attention to the lesson.] Nakamura, what are you looking at?

Hitomi:
Hey, Yuri!

Yuri:
Huh?

Teacher:
Alright, Nakamura. Read from the top of the next page for us. [Yuri stands up from her desk. There is a short pause.] Hm? What now?

Yuri:
This is really wonderful.

Teacher:
What are you talking about?

Yuri:
This is such a happy environment. It's too dazzling for me. This is the way people live their lives. Isn't it just beautiful? I'm envious. If I vanish now, could I start over anew? Could I accept normal happiness?

Teacher:
Nakamura?

Hitomi:
Yuri?

Yuri:
If I lost my memories...and got a different personality...I might be able to. But then, what does it mean to be reborn? That isn't the life I had anymore. It's someone else's life. Everyone only gets to live life one time [Yuri places her hand on her chest.], and it's right here. I only get it once. This is my life. I can't entrust it to someone, I can't steal a new one, I can't force it on others, I can't forget it or erase it. I can't stomp over it, laugh on it, or beautify it! I can't anything! I'd have to-I'd have to accept my one shot at life no matter how cruel, merciless, or unfair I thought it was! [Everyone in the class has disappeared, except for Yuri.] Sir, don't you understand? That is why I must fight. I must keep on fighting! Because...because I can never...[Slams her hands on her desk.] accept that kind of life!

[Otonashi leaves the meeting room and finds a group of SSS members in the hallway.]

Otonashi:
What's this? Do you need something?

Sekine:
I guess we're, uh, ready to go?

Hisako:
Okay, we all agreed with what you had to say, Otonashi.

Irie:
That's right. We've made up our minds.

Hisako:
We're that type of group.

Irie:
We already figured that much anyway. After all, we've lost two vocalists.

Sekine:
No one could replace Iwasawa and Yui.

Hisako:
She [Referring to Yui] really was a horrible vocalist.

Irie:
Every day was fun. Like a festival.

Hisako:
I think you'll have a harder time with the others.

Otonashi:
I bet.

Hisako:
If you're going to do this, see it through. Otherwise, it looks like you've talked us into it. If the Ever Fighting Battlefront disappears from this level of existence, if this strange world fulfills its purpose for everyone, even you, I'll be able to think this was for the best. For a short while, we got to enjoy the youth we never had. I think our time here will have been worth it if we were just supposed to have fun. And isn't that what life's about?

Otonashi:
[Smiling] What're you talking about? I don't get it.

Hisako:
I bet not. [Laughs] Well, who knows what's up next? We're leaving now, just so you know. Later newbie. [She and Otonashi give each other a high five.] High five! We'll play in a band next time, too!

Otonashi:
Yeah, and I'll become your fan again!

Hisako:
Yep. Later. [All the SSS members in the hallway vanish.]

[Yuri wakes up after being asleep for three days with Otonashi, Kanade, Hinata, and Naoi waiting beside her.]

Yuri:
[To Otonashi] Where am I? What...

Otonashi:
The infirmary.

Yuri:
The infirmary? How come you're still here? How long was I out?

Kanade:
Don't push yourself.

Yuri:
I'm okay, Kanade.

Hinata:
Well, you've been through a lot, Yurripe. A lot.

Naoi:
I'm truly amazed you pulled off being our leader like you did.

Yuri:
Even you're here. What are you doing here? Aren't the shadows gone? So there's nothing to keep you here.

Otonashi:
Yeah, I know.

Yuri:
Then why?

Otonashi:
Because we have to help you. It's our job. [Yuri gasps] You're still here.

Yuri:
Uh, me? [Chuckles] I see. How should I put this?

Otonashi:
What is it?

Kanade:
This is my theory: Yuri has overcome the emotional weight pulling her down. [Otonashi, Naoi, and Hinata are surprised. Yuri hides her face under her sheets in embarrassment.]

Otonashi:
Is that true, Yuri?

Yuri:
Eh?! Well, um, you see...I uh...

Naoi:
Fine. I'll hypnotize you to- [Yuri drapes Naoi with her sheets.]

Yuri:
Oh, hell no! You get away from me!

Hinata:
We know what that reaction shows he hit: the bulls-eye.

Yuri:
[Panicking] N-no! That's not true! It'd be a joke if your leader got over it that easily, right?! I mean, what kind of commander would I be if that happened?! [Naoi takes the bed sheet off his head.]

Naoi:
Then I'll hypnotize you- [Yuri throws a pillow at him, sending him falling to the ground.]

Yuri:
Fine! I'm perfectly at peace! Excuse me!

Hinata:
[Gasps] She admitted it! [Yuri quickly turns away in embarrassment.]

Yuri:
[After calming down] I swear, Kanade, you are such a tease.

Kanade:
Yuri, you're just obstinate.

Yuri:
Yeah, I know. I admit it. And I admit that I do feel kind of happy.

Kanade:
About what?

Yuri:
You called me "Yuri" just now.

Kanade:
So?

Yuri:
Well...It's like we're friends.

Kanade:
Like we're friends? [Smiling] Yes, you're right.

[Yuri is observing the SSS's activities on the field from a school building using binoculars.]

Yuri:
[Chuckles] Right now she [Referring to Kanade] should be confused as she watched all of this from the student council room's window. She's wondering why they aren't vanishing when they're so full with energy. It's perfect. Operation High Tension Syndrome is too perfect; it's a stroke of genius! [Starts chuckling, then laughs maniacally.]

Yusa:
[Over radio] Are you a villain?

Yuri:
What are you doing? Trying to insult me?

[The SSS follows Kanade to a secret room to find it filled with plants.]

Yuri:
What is this place? [Notices Kanade]

Kanade:
[Pulls a turnip from one of the allotments.] You're wonderful. You're cute.

Hinata:
Isn't this...?

Takamatsu:
Yes, it's a hydroponics.

Matsusita:
Hey, Yurripe. I found this. [Shows a small sign in his hands saying "Gardening Club"]

Yuri:
Wha...What?

Kanade:
[To Yuri] Now, then. I left the meeting and the word "cute" made me remember the hydroponics turnip I'm tending for the discontinued garden club. So, let me ask you how you think I should go about reporting this to the student council?

Yuri:
[Yelling] WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?!?!

Kanade:
I see everyone's here.

Yuri:
Why is there such tight security at the entrance?!

Kanade:
Security? [The steel doors open behind Yuri and the other SSS members as more SSS members come into the hydroponic.]

Ōyama:
Phew! We made it in! I can't believe all we had to do was hit the "open" button!

Yuri:
Huh?! What about the password?!

Kanade:
Password?

Yuri:
Yeah! The one you hit on the keypad, stupid!

Kanade:
I was calculating the remaining funds for the garden club.

Yuri:
It...was a calculator? [Pause] As of now...the Afterlife Battlefront...[Shouting] MUST NOT EAT FOR AN ENTIRE WEEK!!! [All other SSS members complain.]

[A week has passed since Yuri's declaration for the SSS not to eat for a week. Yui is attempting to practice with Girls' Dead Monster. Yusa is observing.]

Yui:
Sorry, guys...I've tried my hardest and fought with all my might to pull through and carry on your will, but I...think I hit...my...limit...[Collapses from hunger.]

Yusa:
[Lying down in the hallway due to hunger, speaking to Yuri over radio.] All of GirlDeMo's members are down...

Yuri:
It's not like they'll die.

Yusa:
I have to say...your role as a villain matches you perfectly, Yurripe...[Passes out from hunger.]
