Teresa Lisbon:
Did something happen between you and Erica Flynn?

Patrick Jane:
Why?

Teresa Lisbon:
She made a point of letting me know that it did. So... did it?

Patrick Jane:
Uh... well, um... [looks down at the table] Actually, yes. Something did.

Teresa Lisbon:
Oh.

Patrick Jane:
When we were working together, we kissed.

Teresa Lisbon:
You kissed?

Patrick Jane:
Just once, in her hotel room.

Teresa Lisbon:
This story just keeps on getting better.

Patrick Jane:
It was nothing!

Teresa Lisbon:
[Clearly annoyed] Don't say that, ok?

Patrick Jane:
Ok, well, you're right. It... it wasn't nothing at the time. But it was a long time ago, and, um... it was never going to amount to anything. It just... it couldn't.

Teresa Lisbon:
Why didn't you tell me?

Patrick Jane:
I didn't think about it.

Teresa Lisbon:
When you knew we were coming here, you could have told me.

Patrick Jane:
I thought about it then, but I made a decision not to tell you, because I was worried that, um... that it would come between us.

Teresa Lisbon:
I just wish I'd heard it from you first, that's all.

Patrick Jane:
I understand. I should have told you. I'm sorry.

Teresa Lisbon:
It's ok. Really, it's ok [Beat] Are there any others that I should know about? People we've worked with? It would help me if I knew.

Patrick Jane:
No.

Teresa Lisbon:
Lorelei? I always thought that maybe something happened with you two.

Patrick Jane:
[Nervous] Lorelei?

Teresa Lisbon:
Uh-huh.

Patrick Jane:
[Thinks desperately, then grins] Ok, how about this. I'll tell you about Lorelei, if you would tell me about one Walter Mashburn.

Teresa Lisbon:
[Suddenly becomes very interested in the menu] You said manakish was like a little pizza?

Patrick Jane:
For memory to be useful it has to be as accurate and as fast as a camera. How many animals did you get Lisbon?

Teresa Lisbon:
Around 30.

Patrick Jane:
And you got them from Linda's office?

Teresa Lisbon:
Yes I did.

Patrick Jane:
All of the animals came from Linda's office, and that is a place that I have never been. And in a moment, I will turn around and look behind me and just for a few seconds, and I will memorize every animal on those tables, in order, and then I will show you how to do the same.

Student:
How do we know you didn't already memorize them?

Patrick Jane:
Ah, a skeptic, I should have known, and you're right! There's no reason you should trust me. Paul, would you mind rearranging the animals any way you see fit?

Paul Friedman:
Sure.

Patrick Jane:
Thank you. The human brain, once you get it working right it can be incredibly effective. The mind can do some miraculous things like telling the future.

Student:
Bull!

Patrick Jane:
For that, you can be the one who holds the prediction. Science is about predictions isn't it?

Student:
Predictions based on hard data not fortune telling.

Patrick Jane:
Ah ha, you say tomato, I say science is believing rational thought; in grids, in lists, and classification, which is fine but it's not how the world works and it certainly not how the brain works.

Professor Papadakis:
You're saying people aren't rational.

Patrick Jane:
Well, being rational is a tool, but it's not the only tool we have. Long before we stuffed down knowledge into graphs and charts, we used older and, in some cases, more entertaining ways to remember things. How are we doing there Paul?

Paul Friedman:
I think we're good.

Patrick Jane:
Excellent, now please, I'd like to show you what I'm talking about [whistles] . Lisbon, uh would you mind? Thank you. We can create a memory by building a palace in our minds, we can sing ourselves a song, or tell ourselves a little story. A story of a bully, a grey fox, and a little brave man, a rat, who stood up for his chubby little buddy, the toad, and his friend, egghead. A story of a man in a tuxedo who snaked his way through a crowd to meet a women in a colorful dress; a penguin, cobra, three squirrels, and a parrot. The story of flight; an owl, a bat, a moth, all...

Heather Blue:
Where is it?

[She follows Patrick]

Patrick Jane:
You're standing on top of it

Heather Blue:
Under the carpet?

Patrick Jane:
It is the carpet, touch it pure silk

Heather Blue:
[feels the carpet] It looks so old

Patrick Jane:
It's very old, I've got to call this in

Heather Blue:
Wait, if you do call it in, legal mess would never sort this out, it'd probably end up locked away in some government locker

Patrick Jane:
Probably?

Heather Blue:
What if we take it?

Patrick Jane:
You want us to take the carpet, sell it and divide the profits between us [chuckles] that's a great idea, 50/50 split

Heather Blue:
50/50 split

Patrick Jane:
[They shake hands] What did Fisher say when you suggested that to him?

Heather Blue:
Fisher was a soft headed fool

Patrick Jane:
[walks away] Oh, so Heather you knew about the money, you knew he was never in the Peace Corp?

Heather Blue:
I never said that

Patrick Jane:
No, No, No, he told you about the money, he told you about his identity and you shot him [turns his back] I need to call this in, Lisbon will be very happy to know [Heather draws a gun] Are you pointing a gun at me? [Turns around with his phone in an almost open hand]

Heather Blue:
Teddy was not who he said he was, the man I loved was in the Peace Corp, he was going to save the world then I found out he was a soldier, he was a killer!

Patrick Jane:
So you shot him, that's a little counter tuitive?

Heather Blue:
You don't understand, you can only see things from your boudoir government minds, do you know how much good we could do with all that money, how many animal shelters we could save! When I told him, he talked to me like I was some sort of criminal

Patrick Jane:
Well you are

Heather Blue:
No, blessed is what I am, the universe wants me to have this money, I'm sorry, I have to kill you now but I'm doing it from a place of love

Kimball Cho:
[ enters] Freeze! Drop your weapon!

Heather Blue:
[dropping the gun] Wow!
